Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P vs. Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop (Mijia 1C)

Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop Essential (Mijia G1) vs. Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop (Mijia 1C)

What are digital virtual walls & restricted areas?

Virtual walls & restricted area is a feature that prevents the robot from going to certain areas such as cluttered zones or kids rooms. Overall, this option keeps the robot off the areas it could potentially get stuck.

Xiaomi Mijia 1C vs. Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P: maps comparison
Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (left) and Mijia 1C (right): Virtual walls and restricted area settings

What is zoned cleaning?

Zoned cleaning is handy when you need to vacuum high-traffic areas or messy zones. By drawing a rectangle on the map, you let the robot know where it should work. The feature is similar to the room cleaning, although zoned cleaning is more specific as you customize the cleaning area.

What is room cleaning?

The room cleaning is helpful when you don’t want to clean the whole house at once. When a robot creates a map, it divides the map into separate areas in which you can merge or divide the way you want and even name each zone. Further, it will help the robot know where exactly to clean. You can also schedule the robot to work in a particular room or two at a specific time.

What is Lidar?

Lidar or the LDS laser is a technology that is used to build a map of a cleaning area. It scans the surroundings and creates a plan of the floor. Now the robot vacuum knows where it needs to clean. Mapping helps the robot to navigate more efficiently since it doesn’t go over the same spots twice and also saves battery life. The robots that are guided by Lidar finish cleaning faster.

Lidar of the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P
Lidar (also known as LDS sensor or Laser distance sensor)

In addition to the laser, the Xiaomi MiJia 1S has a visual sensor. The visual sensor helps the device to recognize rooms location better.

Robots that don’t have mapping bouncing around until their battery dies, they don’t learn your floor plan and also those are not as efficient.

What is ToF camera?

ToF 3D technology recognizes and avoids small objects on the floor. It calculates the size and distance to the object to avoid it.

Is battery life important?

Yes, it does matter if you live in an average or big size house. Normally the cleaners that have mapping cover a bigger area for the same time the ones that move randomly. Mapping robots systematically cover the cleaning area while the bouncing models might go over the same spots a few times and never get to other places as they clean.

The longer a robot lasts the more it will cover on one charge before finishing cleaning.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot, MiJia 1S, and the 1T run for the whole 2.5 hours while the latest Xiaomi STYJ02YM and the MiJia 1C can do the job for up to 110 minutes which is also a good result but it would need more time to cover a bigger house.

This is why those two are not recommended to use in big homes.

What is recharge & resume?

When the battery runs lower than 20%, a robot automatically returns to the charging dock, juice up to 80%, and then resumes cleaning from the same spot it left off. Mapping helps the robot to know where it has been so it knows exactly where it was before needed to go charging. This feature is useful for people who have big homes, it helps the cleaner to cover a bigger area on one charge. Most homes are not as big for the robot to not finish cleaning before it needs to recharge tho.

The Xiaomi robot cleaners support resuming.

Xiaomi Mi Robot

For Bare Floor

Xiaomi Mi Robot

The oldest

Supports zoned cleaning and is equipped with a long-lasting battery.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot is the first robot vacuum that was released in 2016. It has a HEPA filter that makes the robot safe for allergy and asthma sufferers. Equipped with 12 sensors including the LDS laser that helps to create a map of the cleaning area, the Xiaomi navigates in a back-in-forth pattern safely avoiding furniture and falling offs.

Because of a processor inside you can track the Mi Robot movements in real-time by using the app. It helps to understand where the robot has been and where it needs to clean.

In the Mi Home app, you can switch between cleaning modes, schedule the machine to work at a specific time, start/stop the robot, etc. The Mi Robot supports zoned cleaning but lacks no-go zones.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot is suitable for big homes but is not recommended to use on medium-pile carpets

Thanks to a big battery, the Mi Robot is ideal for big homes but as it does not have a good climbing ability, the robot struggles to move on medium-pile carpets. Tho it does the job on low-pile carpets and hard floors.

*the Mi Robot is an aging robot vacuum and might be hard to find. We would recommend having a look at the newer XiJia 1S that is more efficient, faster and has some extra features, the Mi Robot does not have.

Xiaomi MiJia 1S Robot Vacuum

Best Budget

Xiaomi MiJia 1S

Guided by the LDS laser and a visual sensor

Has a long-lasting battery, supports zoned cleaning and restricted areas. Can recognize rooms thanks to the visual sensor. Because of the HEPA filter, the robot is suitable for allergy and asthma sufferers.

The Xiaomi Mijia 1S Robot Vacuum is the second model in the lineup. It has stronger suction than the Mi Robot and more smart features.

Aside from the LDS laser, the robot also has a visual sensor for a more precious mapping. It has a newer processor than the Mi Robot does that builds a map faster and helps to create a more efficient way of cleaning.

It supports the same features the Mi Robot does and in addition, the robot has blocked off areas and can directly work in a specific room. Thanks to the visual sensor, the MiJia 1S recognizes rooms by dividing the map into separate rooms. When the map is created, you can schedule the cleaner to work in the kitchen/bedroom at a specific time. This option is useful if you need to clean only high-traffic rooms such as a kitchen.

The Xiaomi MiJia 1S has stronger suction which helps to perform better on low-pile carpets but it is not suitable for medium-pile carpets

The new MiJia 1S supports multi-floor which means it can save up to 3 maps and is suitable for multi-story houses. This feature is still in beta and might not work correctly.

To conclude: the Xiaomi MiJia 1S is faster, more efficient, suitable for multi-story houses, and is quieter than the Mi Robot.

Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM)

Our Pick

Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM)

Can do mopping/sweeping, mopping and sweeping

Has a bigger container, and a unique 2-in-1 water tank. Can directly clean in a particular room. With a good crossing ability and strong suction, the robot can work on carpets. Follows a Y-shape path in mopping mode.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM) is the first robot vacuum in the lineup that can do mopping and sweeping. Equipped with a HEPA filter, the robot is safe for allergy and asthma sufferers. The climbing ability increased from 0.59 / 15 mm to 0.79 / 20 mm and now the robot can go on thicker carpets and cross thresholds.

It also has stronger suction of 2100 Pa compared to 1,800 (Mi Robot) and 2,000 Pa (Xiaomi MiJia 1S). Though battery life is shorter, going from 150 minutes, the new robot got 110 minutes on low power.

The most significant update of the latest model — mopping function. The robot has two containers in the box, one is for dust and the other one is for water and dust. There is also a full water tank option available to buy separately if you need the tank to hold more volume. Also, it comes with two mopping cloths, one for wet mopping, the other one for half wet mopping. The robot follows a Y-shape path in mopping mode. It helps to mop more efficiently. The Xiaomi has three water level control for different mopping needs.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P is suitable for medium-pile carpets; it also has a mopping function

The Mi Home app supports virtual boundaries, zoned cleaning, and also room cleaning. It can be scheduled to work directly in a certain room or two. Thanks to HEPA filtration, the robot is safe for people who suffer from allergy and asthma.

It seems like the Xiaomi Mi Robot-Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM) is going to support multimap in the future but for now, it is not here.

Update: Xiaomi has released an advanced version of the Mop P, the Xiaomi MIJIA Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro. What has changed?

The newest modification has stronger suction (2,800 Pa) and a vibrating mopping pad.

Bottom line: Xiaomi MiJia 1C is better for small homes with minimum furniture, pet owners, it can work on all kinds of surfaces (except for the high-pile carpets).

The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM) would be ideal for bigger homes with pets. This model also can work on hard floors, low and medium-pile carpets.

*in our testing, the Mop P did not do a good job on carpets so we would not recommend getting it for medium-pile carpets but as a mop, it does a good job.

Budget 2-in-1 Pick

Xiaomi MiJia 1C

Budget powerful 2-in-1

Equipped with a visual sensor and has the strongest suction power among other Xiaomi robots.

The Xiaomi MiJia 1C is the newest budget robot vacuum that can do both sweeping and mopping at the same time. It is safe for allergy sufferers because of its washable HEPA filter.

The robot is equipped with the largest dustbin among other Xiaomi models thanks to which it is ideal for pet hair. Also, it does the best job on carpets and can be suitable for medium-pile carpets.

The Xiaomi MiJia 1C has the strongest suction in the lineup. On the highest settings, it runs up to 40 minutes and does up to 110 minutes on low power. When it’s out of charge and doesn’t finish cleaning, it returns to the dock to recharge to finish cleaning once it’s powered up.

Because of the short body (lack of LIDAR), the Xiaomi MiJia 1C fits under most furniture.

The robot has two separate containers: one (600 ml) for dust and the other one (200 ml) for water. Because of strong suction and good climbing ability, the 1C is suitable for low and medium-pile carpets.

The Xiaomi MiJia 1C is ideal for small homes with some bare floor area and carpeted surface

Side note: if you want a more powerful robot vacuum and live in a small home, get the Xiaomi MiJia 1C. If you want all these features, have a look at the MiJia 1S or Xiaomi Mi Robot-Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM) and chose the right for you based on the size of your house, multimap, and mopping ability.

*based on our testing, the Xiaomi MiJia 1C is the best for carpets in the lineup.

Best Bidget Alternative

Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 2C

Best budget alternative to 1C and G1

Upgraded version of the MiJia 1C with a bigger battery and stronger suction

The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 2C is the latest model in the lineup that is very similar to the previous 1C but an upgraded version. It has the same navigation system and mapping technology comes with a water tank and has strong suction. The difference between the two is the 2C having a bigger battery and stronger suction. Also, it has a bigger water tank, yet a smaller dustbin. Other than that, the two look almost identical.

Best for the price

Xiaomi MiJia G1

Budget

For small homes

The Xiaomi MiJia G1 is the latest budget robot vacuum. It is guided by a gyroscope and has mopping attachments.

The robot is more powerful than the Mi Robot, 1S, or the Mi Robot Vacuum Mop but not as powerful as the 1C. The 200 ml electronic water tank allows setting water output depending on mopping tasks.

The Xiaomi MiJia G1 is the only model in the lineup that automatically increases suction on carpet

Compared to the other models, the Xiaomi MiJia G1 automatically increases suction on carpets. It also has a cleaning brush with detachable side tips which is essential for people with long hair.

You can watch the robot’s movements in real-time in the Mi Home app.

The robot is ideal for small homes with carpets and hard floors. Not suitable for high-pile carpets.

Best short

Xiaomi Mijia STYTJ02HZM 1T (Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro+)

Recognizes and avoids objects

The longest-lasting battery and the most powerful.

The Xiaomi Mijia STYTJ02HZM 1T (Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro+) is the most advanced robot vacuum with efficient navigation and the strongest suction.

It has a built-in front camera capable of recognizing and avoiding objects on the way.

The 1T is the most expensive in the lineup but is also the most featured.

The Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro+ sees and avoids small objects on the floor

A big dustbin (the biggest in the series) covers up to 160 square meters of area.

The robot is equipped with lots of sensors that prevent the robot from getting stuck or bumping into obstacles.

This is the first model with room select that is not Lidar-guided. You can order it to work in a particular room.

The same as with the others, you can set water level output as well as create no-go zones and zoned cleaning.

Best overall

Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra

Recognizes and avoids objects

The longest-lasting battery and the most powerful.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra is the first model in the lineup that supports a self-emptying system. Since it is new, there is no much information around. All I know is that the robot comes with a self-emptying bin, has object recognition technology and for now doesn't seem like coming to the international market.

The same as the previous model, it has strong suction but unlike the 1T, this robot is guided by Lidar which is more accurate. It also has a big battery and mopping feature.

Best short

Xiaomi Mijia Robot Vacuum-Mop Ultra Slim

The shortest on the market

Additionally has object recognition.

This is the shortest robot vacuum on the market that additionally has a 3D sensor for recognizing small objects. In the box, two containers, one is two-in-one (200 ml water + 225 ml dust box) and a relatively big dustbin (500 ml). The robot navigates with the help of a visual sensor on par with 3D and other sensors that help it move around.

Xiaomi engineers did a great job making a robot this short that has a large dustbin, mopping ability, object recognition, and strong suction but you have to trade something for such a short body. The robot has a battery that is not as big and provides up to 100 minutes of runtime. Not the biggest but still decent.

You get an amazing design, a short body, and lots of features for an affordable price.

Best short

Xiaomi Mijia Vacuum-Mop 2Pro (MJSTS)

The most accurate object recognition

Vibrating water tank.

The new Xiaomi is guided by Lidar and additionally has a multi-dimensional stereo recognition obstacle avoidance system equipped with dual processors for better performance. This might be the best object recognition performance in the family on par with building an accurate map.

On par with that, the robot has a vibrating water tank that is supposed to perform better in removing stains. The manufacturer claims the new Vacuum-Mop 2Pro kills bacterias and sterilizes the floors.

The robot has a powerful 4,000 Pa motor and two dustbins (a big 550 ml separate box), one of which (300 ml) is combined with a water tank (260 ml). A large 5,200 mAh battery provides up to 150 minutes of runtime which makes the robot suitable for big houses.

Best for pet hair

Xiaomi Mijia Anti-winding Sweeping Robot

The best anti-tangling design

Strong suction

The newest MiJia is made for those who have to deal with lots of hair. The manufacturer states it has 8,000 Pa of suction.

The robot has mopping attachments and is suitable for homes with both, hard floors and carpet. The robot has a new design that prevents hair tangling which makes it ideal for pet and human hair.

Lately, Xiaomi has released two self-washing models. Those two do not self-empty a dustbin but wash a mopping attachment. We don't know much about the two yet tho let's try to figure out the difference and clear out some details about each.

Best self-washing for mixed surface

Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Sweeping Mopping Robot MJSTP

Mops hard floors, vacuums carpets

Vibrating water tank. Lifts the mopping pad on carpets

Inside the washing base, are two 2 L containers, one for clean and one for wasted water. Inside the robot, is a 500 ml dustbin with a cleaning brushroll so the robot can do mopping and vacuuming at the same time.

When it detects carpet, the mopping module lifts up just the way the Roborock S7 does. It helps the robot to vacuum carpets and mop hard floors. You don't have to run the robot twice to vacuum carpets. Once in a while, the robot returns to the self-washing station to wash the pad. The mopping module also vibrates which helps with removing stains.

The robot is guided by Lidar and ToF sensors that detect small obstacles Lidar can't sense.

Best self-washing for hard floors

Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Robot Vacuum-Mop Pro (STYTJO6ZHM)

Washes and dries the pads

Wide cleaning brush. Strong suction.

This model has a D-shape which helps to clean corners better than other models. It is also guided by Lidar but lacks a ToF sensor so the robot doesn't avoid small objects. The mopping module is two separate mopping pads that get splashed with water and dried out with hot temperature air after cleaning 10 square meters. Inside the self-washing system are two 4 L containers.

Thanks to the body shape, a large 25 cm cleaning brush covers a bigger area with each step compared to other round robots.

Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Sweeping Mopping Robot MJSTP vs. Mijia Self-Cleaning Robot Vacuum-Mop Pro (STYTJO6ZHM)

  • Mopping module: vibrating plate vs. double rotating wipes
  • Cleaning brush size: 16 vs. 25 cm
  • Object avoidance vs. lack of it
  • Lifting the mopping plate vs. need to set no-go zones to avoid carpets
  • Self-washing system: washing the plate vs. washing + drying the pads
  • Water containers size: 2*2 L vs. 2*4 L
  • Body shape: round vs. D-shape

Both models are self-washing machines with a few differences. The MJSTP lifts the vibrating mopping pad on carpets which makes the robot ideal for mixed surface. The two rotating wipes of the Vacuum-Mop Pro do not detect carpet but the robot has a larger cleaning brush so it does the job faster. To avoid carpets, you can set no-go zones and let the robot vacuum carpets with the second cleaning cycle.

I would say the Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Sweeping Mopping Robot MJSTP is better for homes with a mixed surface and the Mijia Self-Cleaning Robot Vacuum-Mop Pro (STYTJO6ZHM) would be amazing for homes with mostly hard floors.

Best overall

Xiaomi All-In-One Robot Vacuum and Mop

The most-featured

Mops hard floors and vacuums carpets in one go.

The only Xiaomi in the lineup that does it all. The robot has the most advanced self-cleaning base that includes two large water containers, one for wasted water, and one for clean water that fills the onboard water tank and washes the rotating mopping pads after which the base dries the pads so they are always ready to be used. There is also a disposable bag that holds about 30 dustbin capacities.

There is also a camera in front that sees small objects and avoids them on the way for more precise navigation. Another option is a mopping pad lift, when the robot steps on carpet, it lifts the mopping plate with pads so it continues vacuuming carpet in mopping mode. Very convenient to use on a mixed surface so you don't have to switch between modes or run the robot twice, to mop and vacuum.

This is the most advanced robot in the lineup with all the features that exist nowadays. Ideal for homes with a mixed surface and those who don't want to manually maintain the robot.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi Robot is a budget model and lacks many useful features but still can be a good helper for those who are looking for a budget machine and don’t have thick carpets.

The Xiaomi MiJia 1S is a great pick for anyone who wants a robot vacuum with premium features for a reasonable price. At $290.76 you get a powerful robot vacuum with a long-lasting battery and room cleaning.

If you need mopping, extra suction, a bigger container, and better cleaning performance, consider getting the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM). It is a high-end model with many smart bells that is suitable for homes with thin carpets, bare floors, and pet owners.

If you live in a small home with carpets and some bare floors, need a budget cleaner that can do mopping and sweeping, have a look at the Xiaomi MiJia 1C, it is an ideal choice for those who don’t want to go out of budget yet want a powerful robot vacuum. For those who want stronger suction and longer runtime on max mode, have a look at the Xiaomi Mi Robot 2C.

The Xiaomi MiJia G1 is ideal for homes smaller in size with low and medium-pile carpets and people with long hair.

The Xiaomi MiJia 1T is good for big cluttered homes with hard floors or carpets as well as pets. Because of being the most advanced, it is good for homes with lots of furniture and carpets.

The Xiaomi Mijia Robot Vacuum-Mop Dirt Disposal should be good for homes with pets and those who are looking for a smart robot vacuum that would empty itself.

The Ultra Slim model is amazing for homes with furniture that has a gap enough for the robot to fit. On par with that, it should perform well on low-pile carpets and hard floors. Probably be not good for medium-pile carpets.

For those who want the best object recognition and Lidar navigation, the Xiaomi Mijia Vacuum-Mop 2Pro (MJSTS) has it all. Also with a vibrating water tank has to be better for homes with hard floors mostly.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Xiaomi robot vacuums

  1. I have some cluttered areas and don't want to babysit the robot as it cleans. Is there any way to make it avoid those?

You can set no-go zones (virtual walls) to prevent the robot from going to these places where it can get stuck. The Xiaomi 1S, 1C2C, and Mop P support virtual walls. Once you set it, the robot won't cross it. The most advanced is the MiJia 1T. If you can afford it, go with the latest.

  1. I have a thick shaggy rug in my bedroom. Would a Xiaomi be capable of cleaning it?

Unfortunately, none Xiaomi robot vacuum can vacuum thick shaggy rugs. It would be able to climb on one but not moving on it.

  1. I have a small area of tile. Do I need a vacuum with mopping?

A mopping feature is nice to have but not necessarily. If you have a small area of hard floors and aiming to the 1S that does not have a mopping feature then do not worry and go for it. If you were looking for something that comes with mopping attachments then the mopping feature is a nice addition to other options.

  1. I have long thick hair, which model would be able to pick it up without much tangling?

All these models have the same cleaning brush with non-detachable side tips. These are not the easiest to maintain as hair mostly gets wrapped around the edges. In terms of maintaining the cleaning brush, they are the same. The Xiaomi 1C has the biggest dustbin so it can hold the most hair. And this would probably be the best choice if you also have carpets in your home. The G1 on the other hand, has a cleaning brush with detachable tips which is essential for pet owners and those with long hair.

  1. My floors are about low to medium pile carpets with not much furniture around. Can I get a cheaper model or do I have to go with the most-featured one?

If you don't want to pay more, the Xiaomi MiJia 1C or 2C would be just fine. If you want advanced navigation, have a look at the Xiaomi MiJia 1S.

  1. I don't have carpets and good mopping ability is important to me as well as navigation. Do I have to go with the 1C or Mop P?

The 1C has good mopping but not as good as the Mop P because of the Y-shape pattern.
It also has better navigation so probably would be better in this scenario.

  1. Do I need WiFi to make it work?

No, all robots can work without WiFi but you will not have access to some smart features as well as scheduling.

  1. Can I control the robot like a radio car?

Yes, by using the app you can control a Xiaomi robot like a radio car.

  1. I have a dog that sheds and 50/50 carpets and tile. Which one to buy?

We would recommend getting the Xiaomi MiJia 1C as it does amazingly well on carpets and have a big dustbin that is good for pet hair. If you do not need a mopping feature and want precise navigation, have a look at the Xiaomi MiJia 1S.

  1. My place is big, I know that some robots continue cleaning after recharging but I don't want to wait for it to recharge.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot and MiJia 1T have the biggest battery of 150 minutes on one charge which is enough to cover a big place.

  1. I want to be able to order the robot to clean the kitchen. Which model can do it?

You need a room cleaning feature. The Xiaomi MiJia 1S, 1C, 2C, Mop P, and MiJia 1T have this option.

  1. Do I know when the dustbin is full?

No, a Xiaomi robot does not alert when the dustbin is full.

  1. Does the Xiaomi work in the dark?

Yes, all Xiaomi robots can work in the dark with no issues.

  1. Why there is no S5 model in the comparison table?

You probably talking about the Roborock S5 which is not Xiaomi nor made by Xiaomi. It is the other company Roborock that produces robots under the name "Roborock".

  1. Do I need this virtual wall feature?

The virtual wall feature is handy when you have some areas where the robot can get stuck. Those can be places with cords or kid's bedroom with lots of small things laying around.

On the "features chart" of the MJSTS, why does it has such a low "cleaning" grade? I mean, based on what?
Thanks.

Michael ⋅ 3 years ago #

Hi William!
Sorry, the "cleaning" label is a bit misleading in that chart, we should add a clear description below the chart. That chart is built automatically based on the features that the robot vacuum has. Every feature in the cleaning section of the features table gives a robot a certain amount of points. The reason why it has a lower "cleaning" score is that it doesn't support an auto-emptying base, doesn't have a dirt detect and full dustbin sensor. All these features are in the cleaning section in the features table, so they affect the "cleaning" grade. This score doesn't reflect real cleaning performance on carpets or bare floors.

Hello,
Great article. I have a Mi robot vacuum which is great. Could someone please tell me is the spare parts like dust bin and filters the same between the Mi robot and the 1S robot? They look the same in photos as I need a replacement dust bin.
Thanks, Bruce

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 4 months ago #

Hi Bruce, unfortunately, I don't know since I neither test the Mi Robot nor 1S :(

Jodie ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Haven't got that far yet, I'll let you know if we have any luck.

Jodie ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Hi, we have just bought the XIAOMI MIJIA Robot Vacuum 1T but all the instructions are in Mandarine! Do you happen to have the instructions for the 1T in English that you could possibly share! Agghhhhh!!

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Hi Jodie, unfortunately, I believe there is no international version so far. At least I can't find an English manual.

Jodie ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Oh dear. We are having all kinds of issues trying to connect it. Hopefully we will work it out then.

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Tell me how it goes. Did you set the region to the China Mainland? Probably wouldn't work the other way

Jodie ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Hi Natalie, so after a lot of back and forth via email with the supplier in HongKong we have managed to get our little Robo Vac up and running! She is fantastic! When we downloaded the Mi App it automatically set the country to Australia which we didn't realise. After a lot of fiddling and mucking around I have somehow tonight managed to reset the App and select Chinese Mainland as the country and bingo we are up and running. We have now been able to set the language to English for the Vac and the App. It is now doing a run through the Master Bedroom. As I type this to you I am watching it Vac. It is awesome, so far we are really happy with it and are thinking we probably should buy a second one for the downstairs.

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Hi Jodie, glad you managed to connect the device. How it does at avoiding objects?

Jodie ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Hi Natalie, it's obstacle avoidance is sensational. It has bumped into a couple of things but mainly it avoids them. Stopped at the stairs and didn't fall down them, I was very nervous watching it! Has no problem navigating around a solid object and only seems to bump into something that is solid but slightly off the ground, like a couple of furniture pieces we have have a solid bottom with an open shelf at the base, they are about 3mm off the floor as they are on felt pads and it bumped into them initially. Seems to avoid cords and cables but did suck up a cord that was on the floor that we didn't realise was there (but I won't hold that against it :D) It truly is amazing, the technology is superb, all up it's avoidance is 9 out of 10. We also discovered that it has 4 cleanup modes, Silent, Standard, Strong and Turbo. We set it to Stong for the carpet, it is docked on floorboards and when we set it off and it heads into the bedroom it recognises it's on carpet and the suction picks up, when it went into the ensuite it went back to normal suction then up to the stronger suction when it went back to the carpet. We are VERY impressed with it! What it picks up is also fantastic, I can not complain about it's thoroughness. Of course corners are an issue but not a problem really. It's round so how is it going to get right into the corner, this doesn't bother us. I'm yet to try the mopping function but can't wait to try it, I'll let you know how it goes with that too.

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

So it has carpet identification too! I had to idea, didn't see a mention anywhere. Thank you for sharing, it helps a lot. I do hope you won't be disappointed with the mopping. Do not expect much tho but having mopping is good anyways. I'm running my robot with mopping attachments every time and couldn't be happier.

Sanjo ⋅ 3 years, 9 months ago #

Hey Jodie, do you have some instructions on how to do that? I’m struggling adding 1T to Xiaomi Home...

Jodie ⋅ 3 years, 9 months ago #

Hi Sanjo,

It was really by fluke more than good management. Try getting into settings and see if you can change the country to Mainland China, ours had automatically set it as Australia as that is where we are. If you go into the profile screen you should see "settings" from there you can select/change the region. If it is not in Chinese Mainland find it and select it. Then you have to go in and change the language to English which is just below the region settings. We are still having some teething problems and as yet haven't been able to save the maps of the rooms once it has finished so we can send it on its way in the future and be able to schedule it to clean. I'm hoping to get that sorted asap. If you have got your Vacuum synced to the App, select the picture of the Vac and then in the top right corner there is 3 little dots, select that then in the next screen click on "experimental features", turn this on. Apparently that will help it to save the maps, but as I said as yet I haven't been able to.

Xiaomi mijia 1T ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Thank you for the answer, I want to buy roborock s6 maxv but this mijia 1T seems to be similar at a lower price. Your reviews are very informative so be waiting one for mijia 1T.

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

I assume the Roborock would have some advantages anyway but I would like to know more about the 1T, it looks like a decent robot vacuum.

Rodrigo ⋅ 3 years, 5 months ago #

Hi Natalie!

Congrats on your comparison!
I've been looking for my first vacuum robot and I want to go straight to the best one so I can stay for a long time of period.
As may 2021, which one do you consider the best?
In my small research I found xiaomi and roborock as the best ones..
S5 max still the best one? I've seen also the MJSTS1 pro (4000pa) and STYTJ02HZM 1T (3000pa) as well as the STYTJ02YM (2100pa)

Is the deatacheble brush a big difference? My wife leaves a lot of hair on the ground

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 5 months ago #

Hi Rodrigo!

Depending on what you are looking for. If you want a self-emptying bin, a good mopping, or a large battery. Depending on your surface and house size. Also if you have a pet, you'd need a bigger container. Those things matter when choosing a robot vacuum.

The Roborock S5 Max is a good value, you are right.

Rodrigo ⋅ 3 years, 5 months ago #

I was thinking about my priorities and realized that my main problem is my wife's hair. Which one would you recommend in that case?

I have a ceramic cold floor.
I thought that the higher the power suction the better. Is that right? Or there isnt many difference between 4000pa, 3000pa and 2100pa?

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 5 months ago #

Unfortunately only the G1 comes with a cleaning brush that has detachable side tips and this is a great device if you have a traditional vacuum to help with deeper cleaning. I haven't tested the new model as well as the 1S and don't know what kind of a cleaning brush is included.

All of them would pick up long hair but detachable side tips making cleaning the brush much easier as hair tends to get stuck around the edges the most. But if you don't mind this, the Mop P or 1C are great ones too. Again, I haven't tested the latest model so can't say how good it is.

If you are willing to spend more, have a look at a Roborock lineup. I'm more of a Roborock fan, to be honest :)

Hi,
maybe there is any update on Xiaomi mijia 1T review date?

Madhu S ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Awesome article. Superb summary and very helpful. Thanks for sharing .
I am from India. We have the mop-P model of Xiaomi introduced here in India Mi, at around $350 ( costlier by $70!).
Do you know any website which can accept and ship orders to India? I am interested in the latest model T7.
Also, when we do mopping manually, we add a disinfectant liquid to the water. This is not recommended in the mopping feature of Xioami. Do you know any brand that allows disinfectant to be added to water for mopping?

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 10 months ago #

Hi Madhu, I've lost your comment. Unfortunately, I don't know where you can buy the 1T in India. As far as I'm aware only a few "only mopping" robots allow to add a specific detergent of the same brand but tbh I can't remember exactly the brand.

Robot hybrids do not allow it.

Maro ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Hello,
Congrats for your article, when buying the Chinese version for Europe, what other problems can I have in addition to the plug with the adapter? do you know when the global version of mijia 1T will appear and what it will be called?

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Hi Maro, I am not sure about the global version of the MiJia 1T neither do I know when it will appear, unfortunately. The Chinese version only works on the Chinese mainland region server which may cause all other Xiaomi devices loss in the Mi Home app if you have any connected already. For me, it's challenging as I have other devices that work on the other server so I have to switch between regions to make the Xiaomi Mop P work. Also, your robot will speak Chinese. Great opportunity to learn another language huh :)
Other than that, I don't have problems with the robot.

Hi. Congrats for your article. I have decided to buy Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (Mijia STYJ02YM), but here in Greece, almost all sites sell the same Vacuum, but with the code SKV4109GL (black colour) and SKV4110GL (white colour). Is it the same Vacuum? Is SKV4109GL the international version and STYJ02YM the chinese version? And if i buy the STYJ02YM, will i have any problems with manuals etc? Thanks in advance.

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Hi Vasilis, I just googled it and it seems like the SKV4109GL is an international version. With the Chinese version, you would need to switch Mi Home to a China mainland region. If you have other devices in Mi Home that work with the local region, you might need to switch between regions every time when need to use the robot.

Vasilis Papageorgiou ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Thank you very much :-)

Alison ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Hi Natalie, I was very interested in the Mijia T1 after reading your review but it doesn’t seem to be for sale in Australia. Do you know the equivalent one available here? We have mostly timber floors, no pets, some long hair.
Thank you for the great article.

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Hi, Alison thank you :)

The MiJia 1T is the newest model, it might need some time to be available in Australia. The similar technology you might find in the DEEBOT T8 or T8 AIVI. You can read about the difference between the two. But those cost more. Another robot that can recognize things is the Roborock S6 MaxV which is also a highly-priced model.

With such technologies, the Xiaomi 1T is the cheapest so far.

mia ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Good evening Natalie, I would be grateful if you answer me because I do not want to waste my money unfairly, is it true that the robot does not wipe the black floor and carpet? because I have dark gray tile and a gray carpet with black lines, I'm interested in buying it xiaomi mop pro, thank you very much.

Natalie Red ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Hi Mia, most robots do not run on dark carpets. The cliff sensors think it's a drop off preventing the robot from falling. The Xiaomi is no exception. It most likely would work on tile but would not on carpet.

mia ⋅ 3 years, 11 months ago #

Thank you very much for your answer, I hope it works on my dark gray tile ..

Mac ⋅ 4 years ago #

Hi Natalie,

Thanks, your article/review was excellent, I bought the Mop P, but now struggling to get it to work on another floor of the house.

Your review/table said it supports multiple maps, and in one of your first comments/replies you advised (8Jul20) the device can be moved to another room and after cleaning will prompt you to save another map - but mine doesn't, instead it only prompted me to overwrite the previous map. I don't see an option for a map list.

Then on 2Sep20 you said: "Chinese and international versions support multimap" and implied that the feature is not available to the rest of us. This was reaffirmed on the 17Sep20 comment.

Is there any way to enable Chinese/Intl mode so that I can get the Mop P to clean and map my 2nd floor too?

Thanks.

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years ago #

Hi Mac, too bad the robot can't save more than one map. The Chinese or International modifications of the robot means the robot was made for different markets and so it might have extra features other modifications don't like yours. It includes multimapping. Noteworthy, multimapping for those versions came out not long ago so I believe your version will get it as well.

For now, all I can suggest is using it as it is by letting the robot to create a map of the new floor every time. It only affects the time the robot spends cleaning based on a new or already created map. In my scenario, the Mop P took like 10 minutes longer to finish cleaning on a newly created map vs. when the map was already saved. But you would not be able to set no-go zones or send it to a specific room.

Loukas Louka ⋅ 4 years ago #

Hi Natalie

Your articles are always interesting to read and very helpful. Looking for a robot vacuum for an area of 200 sq. mt. having also a mob. The tiles are black and I read somewhere that there are some models that are not recommended on black tiles. Have a small dog in and a carpet if that makes a difference.

I would appreciate if you recommend the best money can buy out there (don't care of brands) and a model that is quality on a better budget. Finally, it will be the 1st robot vacuum for me so, if the mob does not really do a job then I may consider buying only the vacuum cleaner instead.

Thank u in advance :)

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years ago #

Hey there, thank you, means a lot :)
I would not recommend a Xiaomi as 200 square meters is a lot and none of the robots have a big enough battery to cover it all on one charge. I would go for something that lasts up to 150-200 minutes. That can be a Roborock or an ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950. The best value with mopping would be the Roborock S5 Max. I like the way it mops and overall it is the best 2-in-1 robot vacuum for the price. The OZMO 950 is a bit more expensive but it is similar to the Roborock. On Black Friday they supposed to have a discount so you can get any of these cheaper.

Keep in mind, none robot vacuum would perform great as a mop as manual mopping is. But overall I have had a good experience with the Roborock.

Does that help?

Natalie

Sandy ⋅ 4 years, 2 months ago #

Dear Natalie,

Many thanks for your interesting articles/reviews. It is very helpful.
We want to buy a robot vacuum, and we are doubting between the Xiaomi Mop Pro and the 1C.

Could you tell us the most important differences?
We do want him to clean 2 different floors. Is that possible with both the robots?
Is the 'version', as mentioned above, depending on the robot itself? Or is it a setting in the app?

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,
Sandy

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 2 months ago #

Hi Sandy, you can read a comparison I made, I believe it is pretty clear as it covers all aspects :)
You can not use the 1C on 2 different floors as it saves one map only. The robot will build a new map every time you move it from one floor to another. The Mop P saves one map too but the European version does not support multi mapping. The Chinese modification can store up to three maps and be used in a two-floor house. It depends on which modification you buy.
Does that help?

Best,
Natalie

VJ ⋅ 4 years, 2 months ago #

Hi Natalie,

I am considering between Mop P and Roborock S5 MAX. Main function i would like from the Roborock is the no mop zone because my house consists of some carpeted area and would not want to get the robot to mop there. Does MOP P has no mop zone function? Or is there a work around like to save a different map with the carpeted area marked as no go zone?

Thanks

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 2 months ago #

Hi VJ,

The Xiaomi does not support no-mop zones and currently does not store more than one map. The S5 Max has these features and overall is better if you have carpets.

If you are willing to pay more, I would suggest going with the Roborock :)

Vj ⋅ 4 years, 2 months ago #

Thanks for the reply. In the above comparison chart it stated that the xiaomi robot mop P supports multiple maps? It is not avaliable yet on certain server?
It is just that roborock s5 max cost more than double of the xiaomi mop P ..

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 2 months ago #

It looks like Chinese and international versions support multimap. European modifications do not. The Mop P is a good robot for the price but if you want better navigation, cleaning performance on carpet, and good customer support, the Roborock would be a good buy.

But overall, if you don't want to spend more, the Mop P is a good robot to buy :)

SilverOne ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

Hey Natalie,

Really impressed by your articles, videos and comments :> (i've read every single one on the Xiaomi devices). It's really nice to come across genuine know-how and expertise.

I'm considering the C1 vs the STYJ02YM as well. I only have hard floors and live in a small studio. I'm looking for a good mopping experience as well.

I used to have a roborock e20 before i moved here and I loved the thing. However, as a computer scientist tech-geek, I was kinda disappointment by its nav capabilities. The pathing wasn't great and it tended to be clumsy and bump into stuff.

Do you think the navigation on the C1 is significantly more impressive than the E20, and I guess does it work well in dark environments? or should i just go for the laser nav (STYJ02YM) to quench the tech nerd in me?

Best Regards,
SilverOne

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

Hey SilverOne, thank you for your kind words, means the world to me!

In your scenario I would go with the Mop P (STYJ02YM) especially if you have had experience with the E20 before. I have not tested this thing (E20) but I believe you will not notice a significant difference between the two (1C and E20) in terms of navigation except for the ability to set no-go zones, zoned cleaning and the map that can be saved.

Hands down, the Mop P is a better mop than the 1C. If you want to have more features to play with the robot, the STYJ02YM would be a better buy (imho). I am not a fan of how it works on carpet, but if you don't have one, this one is the best for the price on the market so far.

On carpet, the 1C is better but if you want advanced navigation, you migh go for the STYJ02YM.

Does that help?

Best,
Natalie

SilverOne ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

Hey Natalie,

Thank you so much for your comments that was a big help.

It appears the mop pro is built by 3irobotics: http://3irobotics.bdy.smp05.cn/en/index.php

I thought it was made by roborock. I didn't like that the brush was different than the ones used for the roborock models so i decided to spend a little bit more and go for the S5 max, specially because it was 320 euros on aliexpress today.

Best Regards,
SilverOne

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 2 months ago #

Hey there, I didn't want to mention the Roborock as you said you were deciding between the Xiaomi robots.

The newer Roborock models come with a brush with detachable tips, yes, you are right about that. I personally prefer this one because of my long hair. The Roborock S5 Max is the best choice so I'm glad you got this one. It is as good at mopping as it is at vacuuming. So far I believe it is the best value-for-the-price robot vacuum on the market.

Christos T. ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

Hi.
I like your articles and I read almost all comments. I am interesting to buy a robot vacuum of course, and I am between Xiaomi 1C and Mop Pro. I have some low furnitures where 1C could could go but not Mop Pro and a dog with low hair like needles and some carpets. I would buy 1C because of the 2500pa but battery life makes me hesitate.
I would like to ask you what do you mean when you say small and average house. How many meters. And of course we should count the surface that vacuum could access. You say 1C could clean for 40min at max pa. But how many meters did 1C cleaned in one charge?
Thank you.

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

Hey Christos, both of these robots have about the same battery life. The 1C spent about 40 minutes cleaning a 37 square meters area. So more than one minute per meter.

I would not recommend it for big houses unless you are going to use it on balanced mode. The Mop P is better for average houses as it is a bit more efficient but not as much. If your place is rather small or average, I would go with the 1C, cleaning performance significantly better.

Keep in mind that about half of your home is taken by furniture so the real cleaning area would be smaller than actual house size.

Christos T. ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

Thank you Natalie.
One last question that I have is the minimum height that 1C needs to go under.
The robot is 8.2cm. If a furniture has a 8.5cm distance from the floor could 1C go under it and clean? I have some furnitures with 8.5 - 9cm space.
If 1C goes everywhere until it touches something I think it will go under but if it measures the height somehow maybe it doesnt.
Do you know something about?

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

The 1C is not smart enough to measure height :) The laser-guided robots do. Should go under your furniture but I can't be 100% sure about that.

Christos T. ⋅ 4 years, 3 months ago #

Thanks again.

Fernanda Ferreira ⋅ 4 years, 4 months ago #

I have a Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P (STYJ02YM), can you tell me how to save maps of different floors in the house?
Thanks

Natalie Red ⋅ 4 years, 4 months ago #

Move the robot to another floor and start cleaning. When the robot finishes cleaning, the app will ask you to create a new map or replace the current map. Then you can select the necessary map in the settings -> Map list.
