Self-emptying robot vacuums rise in popularity in recent years, and almost every robot vacuum maker has a model with an auto-emptying base. This summer Anker released two new robot vacuum cleaners - the Eufy Clean G40+ and its sibling G40 Hybrid+. These are basically identical devices, except for the Hybrid+ equipped with a water tank and mopping pad for wet cleaning. Both come with a self-emptying base.
The Eufy Clean G40+ is already available on Amazon for $479.99, and, at the moment, you can buy it even cheaper with a $150 discount coupon available on Amazon. The G40 Hybrid+ is a bit pricier and comes with a price tag of $499.99 on Amazon. There are a few robot vacuums with a self-emptying base from other brands under $500, so let’s see if these new Eufy models are any good for the price.
Navigation and Mapping
The Eufy Clean G40, as well as other robots from the Eufy G-Series, uses an inertial navigation system based on a gyroscope and accelerometer sensors. This navigation system is not as accurate and efficient as the one used in robot vacuums with Lidar or a camera, yet it creates a simple map, so the robot cleans in neat parallel rows and remembers where it has already cleaned. Though, unlike Lidar or camera-based robot vacuums, the G40 doesn’t save the map, lacks no-go zones in the app, and doesn’t allow you to choose a specific room for cleaning.
A 2600mAh battery lasts up to 100 minutes on a single charge, and when the battery is low, the robot returns to the dock, recharges, and continues cleaning where it left off. Based on the battery life, I would not recommend this robot vacuum for a large house. It’s a good choice for a small house where it can finish the job on a single charge or medium-sized houses where it will do the job in two cleaning cycles.
Cleaning performance
Thanks to a powerful suction rated 2500Pa, the Eufy Clean G40+ is suitable for hard floors, and low/medium pile carpets. You can choose between 4 suction modes in the app. The robot can automatically detect carpets and boost suction to the max when cleaning carpets. The average audible noise level is around 55dB on low suction mode, so it should not disturb you when cleaning nearby.
G40 Hybrid+ model
The Eufy Clean G40 Hybrid+ model also comes with a 130ml water tank and mopping attachment. The robot can vacuum and mop simultaneously. Even though it is just dragging a wet cloth and can’t remove stubborn stains, it’s still a great addition if you have hard floors.
Automatic dirt disposal
The auto-emptying base holds up to 3.2L of dust. It should be enough for up to two months of everyday usage in an average house, then you should replace a disposable dust bag with a new one. Inside the base, there is a niche where you can store accessories and a spare disposable dust bag - very convenient. The self-emptying base will be very useful for those who have pets.
EufyHome app
The EufyHome app allows you to control the robot, start cleaning or send the robot to the dock, schedule, change suction and mopping mode (for the Hybrid+ model), and more. You can also start and stop cleaning via Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands.
To conclude, the Eufy Clean G40+ and G40 Hybrid+ are decent devices. In this price range, you can find robot vacuums with a self-emptying base and Lidar with more accurate navigation and more smart features such as no-go zones, selective room cleaning, etc. However, the G40 may be a better option for those who want a reliable robot vacuum with good customer and product support.
