iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ just released: What Do We Know So Far?

iRobot released a new flagship robot vacuum cleaner. The new Roomba Combo j7+ is the first 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop from iRobot. A new model already appeared on the official iRobot website but is not available on Amazon so far.

What’s new in the iRobot Roomba Combo j7+?

The Roomba Combo j7+ is a revamped version of the Roomba j7+. But unlike the predecessor, the Combo j7+ is a 2-in-1 device - a robot vacuum and mop. It can vacuum and mop your floors simultaneously.

Moreover, it automatically recognizes carpets and lifts the mopping pad as soon as it climbs on a carpet. The Combo j7+ also comes with a combined dustbin & water tank.

The water tank is controlled by an electronic water pump, which means water doesn’t leak when the robot is idle or charging. You can choose the desired amount of water supplied on the mopping pad in the app.

There are a few robot vacuum cleaners on the market from different brands that can lift the mopping pad to avoid mopping carpets, but the iRobot lifting technology looks superior. For example, the Roborock S7 and S7 MaxV also lift the mop, but only up to 5mm, which is not enough if you have a medium pile carpet as it still touches the carpet with the mopping cloth. The Roomba Combo j7, on the other hand, lifts uses a different approach:

As well as its predecessor, the Roomba Combo j7+ is equipped with a front camera for better object recognition and avoidance. So far, the j7 is probably the best robot in terms of avoiding cables lying on the floor. The Combo j7+ uses the same auto-emptying base as the Roomba j7+.

Unlike competitors like the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, the Roomba base doesn’t refill the water tank and doesn’t wash the mopping pad during and after cleaning. Unfortunately, the mopping pad doesn’t vibrate, so it probably will be not as efficient as the Roborock S7 in terms of mopping.

The Roomba Combo j7+ is available to buy on the official website for $1099.99, which is a bit expensive, taking into account that competitors like Roborock, Ecovacs, and Dreame have robot vacuums with more advanced features and more accurate Lidar navigation, but on the other hand, iRobot always looks like a better choice in terms of reliability, customer support, and carpet cleaning performance. Also, the mop lifting tech is probably the best we have seen so far.
