Mopping vs. vacuuming
Half of the lineup only can do vacuuming while the other half is a hybrid vacuum&mop. The latest models include mopping attachments in the box. The latest models that come with the OZMO system also support the OZMO Pro 2.0 which is a vibrating water tank.
What is OZMO?
OZMO technology allows controlling water level output. There is an electric pump through which water runs out and three water levels so you can select how much water you need depending on mopping tasks.
What is the OZMO Pro 2.0?
OZMO Pro 2.0 is a 240 ml water tank that vibrates. The embedded electronic mophead vibrates up to 480 times/minute to provide an extra deep clean.
What is OZMO Pro 3.0?
OZMO Pro 3.0 ensures a full reciprocating vibration with a maximum frequency of 600 times/min. Counter-rotating cloth plates spin at 180 RPM to remove every last bit of dirt from the floor.
What is OZMO Turbo 2.0?
It is a system that has two rotating mopping pads. It rotates up to 180 times per minute making it more effective and efficient in scrubbing hard dirt and stains off the floor.
The second thing to consider is mapping. Normally I recommend getting a robot that has mapping ability as those are more efficient especially in medium and big homes.
Mapping technology: camera vs gyroscope vs Lidar
Smart robots create a map of your house by using different types of sensors: gyroscope, camera, and Lidar.
Only the "U" series uses a gyroscope to create a map. It builds a map by the robot hitting objects/walls and that's how it knows where to clean. Those robots do not save a created map, nor allow setting no-go zones, zoned cleaning, or sending the robot into a particular room. They do not locate themselves in a room if you manually move it.
The cameras robots need light to be on as those clean. Only the 700 series use a camera to navigate. To build a map, the camera takes lots of shots of the cleaning area. The 700 series does not support no-go zones, area cleaning, and can't be sent to clean a specific room.
Lidar-guided robots normally have the most advanced navigation among them all. The LDS sensor scans the surroundings to create the map. Those save a created map, support no-go/no-mop zones, can be sent to clean the kitchen, etc. The 900, T and the latest N series use Lidar to navigate.
Lidar creates the most accurate map and does not require light on, but a camera is more reliable, and lacking a tower on top makes camera-guided robots shorter. A shorter robot fits under most furniture.
The latest robots additionally have a built-in camera or DToF sensor that helps the cleaner to recognize small objects.
Random vs. Smart navigation. Which is better for a big house?
Random navigation means the robot bounces around more or less randomly. This causes missing spots and in big homes, there are more chances to leave some zones untouched. Those are good if you already have a traditional vacuum and need a robot for cleaning some rooms to keep the floors clean between big cleanings.
Smart navigation is a back-and-forth movement the robot does to cover the whole room without missing spots.
For a big house, I always recommend a robot with smart navigation as it wouldn't get lost since it knows where it needs to clean.
Battery life
A small battery means the robot might not cover a whole house on one charge if the house is big. A Lidar-guided robot cleans approximately 1sq m/10 sqft in 1 minute. Since the robots with random navigation randomly bounce around it's hard to measure how long it takes to cover the same area.
Battery life means how long the robot can clean on the lowest power settings.
The recharge and resume feature allows a robot to finish the job in big houses but keep in mind that on average it takes about 4,5 hr to charge.
Is the DEEBOT suitable for big houses?
Yes, the models with a bigger battery that run for up to 150+ minutes are suitable for big homes.
Carpet identification
It is a sensor that detects carpets and automatically boosts power when the robot steps on one. This feature helps to save battery life in big houses with a mixed surface so you don't have to change the power settings or run the robot on the highest suction all the time.
Connectivity
All DEEBOT models are connected to the app and can be controlled via Amazon Alexa and Google Home. None comes with a physical remote control.
Can my DEEBOT work without WiFi?
Yes, if you press the start button, the robot would start cleaning and when finished returns to the dock to recharge. But you wouldn't have access to smart features like scheduling, no-go zones, sending the robot to clean a specific room, etc.
Climbing height what does it mean?
It's the robot's ability to climb on low or medium-pile carpets and also the height of a threshold it can run over. Old models are not suitable for a medium-pile carpet but can work on a low-pile one.
The latest models can do the job on all kinds of surfaces.
Dustbin size. How often to clean the filter?
The dustbin size matters in homes with lots of human or pet hair. The dustbin size doesn't matter when the robot has a self-emptying base since it empties the bin automatically. Handy for bog homes with lots of debris or hair.
When the dustbin is packed it should be emptied since it causes a suction decrease. The same goes for the filter. Wipe it out of dust after every other cleaning. Even if you own a robot with a self-emptying base, you need to clean the filter after every other cleaning for better cleaning performance.
Smart Features: virtual boundaries, zone cleaning, prioritize areas
The ECOVACS app allows setting virtual boundaries that keep the robot from going to certain places.
Lidar-guided DEEBOTs allow setting restricted areas, creating zoned cleaning and prioritizing where to clean first using the ECOVACS app
Also, there is a possibility of creating zone cleaning. If you want the robot to work within a particular room, this option is useful. Also, you can send the robot to clean a specific room or a few.
In case there are high-traffic rooms such as a kitchen or living room, you can prioritize the vacuum to clean there first.
These options are supported by the Lidar-guided ECOVACS models.
ECOVACS DEEBOT N Series
ECOVACS DEEBOT N79S
Best-selling model
The ECOVACS DEEBOT N79S is listed on Amazon for ~$175.0. It is the same old DEEBOT N79S only in white color. What is the DEEBOT N79S/N79W+ best for?
- The most affordable model
- Homes with bare floors and some thin carpets
If you don’t want to spend more and just looking for a budget robot vacuum that will be an addition to the main vacuum — have a look at the N79S/N79W+. It is compatible with Alexa/Google Home, able to vacuum thin carpets, however, do not expect it to deep clean your carpets, it is more suitable for bare flooring and everyday cleaning.
ECOVACS DEEBOT N78 vs. N79 vs. N79S vs. N79SE vs. N79W/N79W+: the difference explained
Firstly, let’s remember the oldest versions of the N Series: N78 and N79. The N78 is not Wi-Fi-enabled and comes with mopping attachment but the mopping performance is not impressive. The N79 is not a mopping robot but it does have Wi-Fi even tho it is not compatible with Amazon Alexa nor Google Home. These models have a low price tag so if you don’t need Alexa compatibility, you can get one of these.
N78 vs. N79: what has changed?
- The N79 lacks mopping attachments;
- The N79 is wi-fi enabled.
DEEBOT N79S vs. N79SE. The N79S is an updated version of the N79, it has Alexa and Google Home integration and Max power mode that gives more power and can even do light vacuuming jobs on low-pile carpets (not deep cleaning). It is capable of removing for pet hair on hard floor but will not do so on carpet. The DEEBOT N79SE is the same as the N79S but one of these is sold on Amazon (N79S) while you can find the other one on Best Buy (N79SE).
N79 vs. N79S/N79SE: what is the difference?
- The N79S/N79SE is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home;
- The newer model has Max mode providing stronger suction.
DEEBOT N79S vs. N79W/N79W+. The difference between the N79S and N79W is a color option: one is black and the other one is white. It has the same motor and features. The DEEBOT N79W+ comes with a 2-years warranty respectively having a higher price tag (other models have a one year warranty).
N79S vs. N79W vs. N79W+:
- N79S is black; the N79W is white;
- The N79W+ has an extended two years warranty.

The cheapest
It is one of the latest models from ECOVACS. The machine is similar to the N79S and Ozmo 601. The manufacturer does not provide what the suction is here. The robot is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. What is the ECOVACS DEEBOT 500 good for?

There is no significant difference between these modifications except for the color option. The DEEBOT 500 is black, the DEEBOT 505 and DEEBOT 502 are white and grey respectively.
ECOVACS DEEBOT 600 Series

For Small Homes
The ECOVACS DEEBOT 601 is similar to the previous model but has a different design and weaker suction. The DEEBOT 601 is good for:
- Homes with no carpets
- Small homes
The DEEBOT 601 is not good for carpets, the suction is not enough to provide deep cleaning but the robot is ideal for houses with bare flooring.
ECOVACS DEEBOT 600 vs. 601 vs. 605 vs. 661 vs. OZMO 610
All these models are Wi-Fi-enabled and can be controlled by voice if you have Alexa or Google Home.
DEEBOT 600 vs. 601 vs. 605 vs. 661. The 600 and 601 are the same models that are capable of mopping but the water tank can optionally be ordered separately. The DEEBOT 600 and 601 have a different color option: white and black respectively.
While the 600 and 601 modifications come without a water tank in the box, the DEEBOT 605 includes a tank. There is also a DEEBOT 661 which has the same features of the 605 modification, the difference between the DEEBOT 661 and DEEBOT 605 is also in a color option (black and white) only. Both models have a water tank in the box and this is how you can distinguish it from the 600/601 models.
The DEEBOT 605 (white) is not available to buy on amazon.com but you can get the DEEBOT 661 (black) instead.
600/601 & 605/661: the difference

DEEBOT 600/601/661 vs. OZMO 610. The main difference between these models would be OZMO technology. This system controls water level supply depending on light or heavier jobs while a standard water tank does not have a motor so water constantly drips at about the same amount all the time. Ozmo saves water extending mopping time up to 200 minutes on low settings (vs. 110 minutes). The OZMO 610 also has a smaller dustbin (450 ml vs. 520 ml).
600/661 vs OZMO 610: the main differences
- Ozmo technology controls water flow making mopping more efficient and also extends runtime in mopping mode;

The ECOVACS DEEBOT 711 is a robot vacuum cleaner from the model line that is based on a camera, not the LDS laser. The robot creates a map, knows where it has cleaned but does not support virtual walls and zoned cleaning. The previous two robots can be tracked in real-time in the app when the DEEBOT 711 can not. What is the DEEBOT 711 good for?

The ECOVACS DEEBOT 711 is ideal for everyday cleaning but will not provide deep cleaning on carpets.

The 700 Series is a camera-guided robot vacuum with some small differences between modifications.

The DEEBOT U2 Pro is a budget yet powerful robot vacuum that also can do mopping. It lasts up to 2.5 hours and follows a back-and-forth purposeful navigation pattern. The U2 Pro also has the biggest dustbin in the lineup.

There are a few differences between the two: the U2 Pro lasts longer. It has a bigger battery and takes longer to charge.

The 900 Series are laser or laser with camera-guided robot vacuums. The ECOVACS DEEBOT Ozmo 930 is similar to the DEEBOT 901. It includes a suction inlet, maps your home, and has the same suction. However, the Ozmo 930 also can do mopping and while doing it, the robot avoids carpets so you don’t have to create blocked zoned around the carpets. The robot can identify carpets, when it’s on carpet, the Ozmo 930 boosts up suction to max level to provide deeper cleaning. What is the ECOVACS DEEBOT Ozmo 930 suitable for?

The robot is perfect for those who have some carpets and want a robot with mopping. But the same as with the DEEBOT 901, the Ozmo 930 won’t clean thick carpets, it is not suitable for deep carpet cleaning.

Ideal for multi-level homes
The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 920 is very similar to the new OZMO 950/T5. The biggest difference between the two is suction power. The OZMO 950 has 1,500 Pa, the OZMO 920 has 1,200 Pa. The OZMO 950 has three cleaning modes: normal, max, and max plus. The OZMO 920 has two: normal and max.
The OZMO 920 provides up to 130 minutes of cleaning which is a good result. It is not as good on medium-pile carpets as the OZMO 950 but still good enough for thin carpets and bare flooring. Equipped with a 240 ml water tank and mopping pads for mopping chores. In the app, you can control the water level depending on your mopping needs.
The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 920 is suitable for homes with more than one level, pet hair, and mixed surface.

- Multimapping makes the OZMO 920 suitable for homes with more than one level;
- Longer battery life (110 min vs. 130 min);
- Stronger suction power is better for picking up debris on low-pile and cleaning medium-pile carpet;
- The OZMO 930 has a slightly bigger dustbin and water tank;
- The newer model has a better climbing ability so it is suitable for thicker carpets.
To conclude: the OZMO 930 is an older robot vacuum with its flaws. It is good for small to average homes with almost no carpets and pet hair while the OZMO 920 is better for homes with more than one floor and medium-pile carpets.
DEEBOT “N” Series
The Series is a Lidar-guided robot vacuum with a bunch of other sensors that help it to navigate around. All of them work for up to 110 minutes and can do mopping, have the same 240 ml water tank. All of those resume cleaning after recharging too.
The N series includes:
- N8 Pro/Pro+
- N8/N8+
- N7
- N9+ OZMO
The N7 is the cheapest among the others and is suitable for those who want an advanced robot with no extra features.
It doesn't recognize objects but navigation is still decent with the Lidar and other sensors that allow the robot to navigate around without bumping into things.
And there is no mention of its compatibility with a self-emptying system so it might not be able to support one.
The N8/N8 Pro series have a lot alike too. The "+" means a self-emptying bin is included. Tho the N8 and N8 Pro versions are compatible with one but you have to buy it separately. Also, the “Pro” means that the robot “sees” and recognizes small objects on the way.
There is not much information about the two, the other difference you can think of is its suction, the N8/N8+ has 2,300 Pa, the Pro version has 2,600 Pa.
ECOVACS DEEBOT N7 vs. N8 vs. N8 Pro
Comparing the N8 with the N7, you can say that the N7 is cheaper but it doesn't have object detection so this is a budget option. As well as we are not sure of it supporting a self-emptying bin. Since the N7 and N8 are almost identical, I believe the only difference is the N8 is compatible with the self-emptying bin when the N7 is not.
The N8 and N8+ also lack the sensor that allows the robot to recognize and avoid objects. Another difference is suction, the N8/N8+ are not as powerful as the N8 Pro versions.
The N8 and N8 Pro are mid-level models. Let's not forget, the T8 AIVI is still a top-notch model in the lineup.

Those two might seem very similar. Both navigate with the help of Lidar and DToF sensor that recognizes small objects. Both have a mopping feature with the same specs of the water tank size, cloth type, etc. All four models are compatible with a self-emptying bin, the only difference is the N8 Pro + and T8+ coming with one in the box.
- Suction. The N8&N8 Pro+ have stronger suction of 2,600 Pa when the T8&T8+ deliver 1,500 Pa
- Battery. The N8 and N8 Pro+ are equipped with a smaller battery of 3,200 mAh in size that provides up to 100 minutes of runtime. The T8 and T8+ last for up to 200 minutes because they have a large 5,200 mAh battery.
- Charging time. Because of having a smaller battery, it takes 4 hours to recharge for the N8/N8 pro+ and up to 6.5 hr for the T8/T8+

The newest robot in the family has DToF Laser Detection which recognizes small things such as cables, shoes, socks, etc. It has the most precise navigation in the family because of the built-in camera. Also, it can last up to 3+ hours on one charge which means the T8 AIVI is perfect for big homes.
There is another modification, the DEEBOT T8. Unlike the T8 AIVI, the T8 does not have a camera. Instead, it uses TrueDetect 3D Advanced Technology to recognize objects. It is able to recognize even the smallest objects and it also does not allow streaming videos in real-time. Since it does not have a camera and relates to a laser only, it does a better job recognizing objects in the dark.
Ideal for large multi-level houses
It supports multimapping and can save up to 3 different maps. The OZMO T8 is based on one of the best robots in the series, the OZMO 950.
Because of strong suction and carpet identification, the OZMO T8 is suitable for medium-pile carpets. It also avoids carpeted surfaces in mopping mode as it can detect one which you can see on the map.

- Object recognition technology. The T8 AIVI uses a front camera to recognize objects; the T8 has a DToF sensor. The T8 AIVI lets to stream videos in real-time and shows icons where the avoided objects are located.
To conclude: We do not recommend getting the OZMO 960 as it is expensive and is basically the OZMO 930 which is an old model. The OZMO T8 AIVI has a bigger battery, stronger suction, and overall better navigation & specifications. So far, the OZMO T8 AIVI is the best in the family and we would recommend it to buy for anyone who wants a robot vacuum with object recognition and also great features.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT T9 is the newest high-end device in the lineup. It has all the features of the T8 but in addition stronger suction as well as a new feature, the Air Freshener.

The T9 series includes the following models:

The "+" at the end stands for a self-emptying station included in the box.
There is not much information about the difference between the T9, Max, and Power versions. What I could find is that the tower with Lidar is gold in the T9 Max and is white in the T9 Power. The robot has the same features as the T8 but delivers more pascals (3,000 Pa), and its navigation is more advanced. It does not have a camera (as the T8 AIVI does) and as a result, does not make a live video.

- The two use different technology for object recognition, the T9 AIVI uses a camera and also allows streaming live videos when the Max/Power is equipped with a 3D sensor. The T9 AIVI leaves small icons of the avoided objects on the map.
- Another difference is the cleaning mechanics. The T9 AIVI is equipped with the iRobot's double rotating bristles brushes, AirForce.
- The T9 AIVI has a smaller dustbin (330 vs. 420 ml).
The T9 is not on sale yet but it looks promising so we are waiting for it to come to the market. Well, technically, you can buy these on Aliexpress but to make it work, the seller needs to create an account with a Chinese phone number and only in this case, you can connect the robot to the app.

The DEEBOT T10 series has two modifications, the T10 PLUS and T10 Turbo. The difference between the two:
- The Turbo modification comes with two water containers yet the robot does not have a water tank inside. Its self-cleaning base only washes the double rotating mopping pads and does not self-empties debris. The base also has a hot air drying function.
- The PLUS version base only self-empties the dustbin but does not washes a mopping pad. Unlike Turbo, the PLUS has a standard mopping pad that vibrates.
In short, the Turbo version washes its mopping pads but does not have a self-emptying feature. The PLUS does not wash the pad yet has a self-emptying option.
Both models are equipped with a camera for object recognition and are able to make a real-time video, an option that is not available for models with a 3D sensor.
DEEBOT T9 vs. T10
The DEEBOT T10 has a vibrating mopping pad and a different style of a self-emptying base. A disposable bag is also bigger (4 L vs. 2.5 L).

- Are pods washable or disposable?
The pods are washable. Can be washed in a washing machine.
- I have a dog and a cat. Both leave lots of pet hair. Which one should I get that would be able to pick up all the hair?
We would recommend getting a robot with stronger suction and one that has a suction inlet in the box. Stronger suction helps to pick up more, and the suction inlet sets you free from hair clogging.
- Can I use a DEEBOT without WiFi?
Yes, you can but will not have access to additional features such as scheduling, no-go zones, etc.
- Can I add detergent to the mopping tank for better mopping results?
The manufacturer does not allow adding anything other than water to the tank.

Get one that lasts longer. This can be the OZMO 950 (T5) or T8 AIVI or T8.

The OZMO 930, 920, 950, 960, and T8 AIVI/ T8 and N series identify carpets in mopping mode. The latest models also support No-Mop zones so you can set them around the carpeted area.
- Can the robot avoid a dog's poop?
Only the OZMO T8, T8 AIVI, and N8 Pro+ are able to recognize pet waste. This technology is still new so we would not recommend leaving the robot on its own when you are out.
- I have three pets and don't want to spend time maintaining the robots. Which one would be the easiest for me to use?
Probably you need the OZMO T8, T8 AIVI, and N8 Pro+ Those are compatible with a self-emptying bin that holds up to 30 robot's bins so you don't have to empty the bin after every cleaning.
- Does mopping matter much? I have hard floors but not sure I need mopping. Aiming to the Deebot 901.
If you don't think you would use mopping, get the DEEBOT 901. A mopping feature is nice to have but not the most important. Some people do not use it at all.

The DEEBOT 901 is a very good buy. It is smart, efficient and budget now. If you need mopping, have a look at the newer U2.
