Nowadays, we are not satisfied with vacuum and mop hybrids, we want a robot that would be as good at mopping as most of them at vacuuming. So in 2022, we have a new trend coming, the self-washing robot mops.
Those robots are actually made for mopping at first but have an extra vacuuming option and strong suction for good cleaning performance on carpets too.
Some of these are not widely available yet, some are selling on Amazon. So let's have a glance on each.
Vacuum + mopping at the same time
Almost all these self-cleaning machines can do the vacuuming and mopping at the same time except for the Narwal that includes two modules that have to be switched manually.
How the self-cleaning system works
Depending on the model, the self-washing system might differ but most of them work the same way.
Each system contains two containers, one for clean and one for wasted water. When the robot returns to the base, the system takes water from the clean water reservoir, washes the pads (or the plate) filling the wasted water container with dirty water. Almost every robot here has an option to return to the base after cleaning some area so the pads are not dragging dirt around your place. Some models also have a drying option which means when the robot is done cleaning, the pads are getting washed and then drying out.
Most of them don't have a water tank inside the robot except for the ECOVACS DEEBOT N9+ OZMO.
None of the robots below has a self-cleaning feature which means you would need to empty the dustbin manually. The only exception is the newest ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI that has self-washing and self-cleaning options. At the same time, it is the most expensive robot vacuum on the market.

Narwal T10
The Narwal T10 was the first mopping robot that also vacuums. While others are a vacuum with the ability to mop, the Narwal comes with a big self-cleaning station that carries 2 large containers, one for dirty, one for clean water. The robot has two pairs of cleaning tools, two pads for mopping, and a vacuum plate so you can switch between mopping and vacuuming mode depending on cleaning needs.
The downside of this system is that the Narwal does not vacuum and mop at the same time. Also, it lacks a cleaning brushroll and only has a suction inlet so I wouldn't recommend the robot for carpeted areas. In my place with no carpets, the robot does a good job tho.
The app has the most-common features for a high-end device: the no-go and no-mop zones, mapping in real-time, customizable settings for mopping and vacuuming. It lacks zoned cleaning and does not have multimap support.
As the robot cleans, depending on the mode set, it would return to the base to wash the pads. When the robot finishes cleaning, the system dried the pads out.
Dreame W10 Pro
The Dreame W10 Pro looks similar to the Narwal but has a cleaning brushroll which makes it a vacuum too. This one is suitable for homes with low-pile carpets. Besides, it has a carpet recognition function which means the robot avoids carpets in a mopping mode and boosts suction on carpets in a vacuuming only mode.
Unlike the Narwal, with the Dreame you can choose among three options: vacuuming, mopping, and both at the same time. Only mopping is better for liquid spills as it wouldn't damage the motor. Both at the same time would make the robot avoid carpeted areas so running the robot one more time to vacuum the carpets only would be on point. The vacuuming only option covers the whole cleaning area.
The robot also has the same features as the Narwal does but in addition includes zoned cleaning and multimapping (up to three maps).
In the app, you can select how often the robot should return to the station, every 5, 10, or 15 sq m.
The robot is on an international market and can be used in many countries.
Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Robot Vacuum-Mop Pro (STYTJO6ZHM)
Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Robot Vacuum-Mop Pro (STYTJO6ZHM)
Similar to the Dreame W10 Pro
This Xiaomi model is not widely available and we think it is made for a Chinese market only so far. It might change naming when it's international. However, it looks very similar to the Dreame W10 Pro with some distinguishes like suction power, dustbin capacity, working time, etc. The biggest disadvantage (for now) is that the Dreame is available for the rest of the world when the Xiaomi is not.
Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Sweeping Mopping Robot MJSTP
Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Sweeping Mopping Robot MJSTP
With object avoidance
This Xiaomi robot mop is also not widely available yet. The robot looks very similar to the previous model but instead of the two rotating pads, this one has a plate that lifts up on carpets, similar to the Roborock S7 technology. It also has a sensor that senses small objects compared to the previous model that lacks such.
The MJSTP also includes two large water tanks but those are smaller containing only 2L of water each. Because of the robot's round body, the MJSTP has a shorter cleaning brush (16 vs. 25 cm). The self-washing base only washes the pad when the STYTJO6ZHM washes and dries them out.
The same as the STYTJO6ZHM, this one is not an international version yet.
ECOVACS DEEBOT N9+ OZMO
ECOVACS DEEBOT N9+ OZMO
The only navigating with a camera
The DEEBOT N9+ OZNO only works via a Chinese number which may be a problem. To connect the robot to the app, you need to create an account but use a Chinese number which doesn't make this model convenient to use for now. Maybe in the future, the robot is on an international market and can be working with local numbers.
This is the only robot on the list that uses a camera to create a map and navigate around. It is also the only model that has a water tank inside the robot.
Those who are looking for a roobt that would not only wash the pads but also empty the dustbin, there is an Ecovacs Deebot X1 OMNI. It is the most expensive robot on the market but is also the most featured. But the same as the N9+, the OMNI is not widely available to buy.
