Retractable LDS: StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 vs VersaLift DToF

Both technologies are new. When the robot goes under low-profile furniture, it retracts the LDS, making the body shorter. But even with that, the Roborock is shorter. In addition to the LDS, both robots use sensors, 3D, and light for object recognition.

Since it's a new technology, a bunch of people say that their Slim (which has the same Starsight) does a worse job navigating (compared to the standard LDS). The same goes for the Dreame which tries to climb on obstacles instead of avoiding them.

However, let's give the engineers some time to update the software for the robots to navigate the way they should.

The self-cleaning system: RockDock Ultra 2.0 vs. Adaptive Intelligent PowerDock

Both stations provide all these options:

  • self-emptying
  • wash the pads with warm water
  • dry them with hot air
  • hot/cool water tank auto-refill
  • auto-solution refill
  • mop removal
  • washboard auto clean

When refilling the water tank, the Dreame's station uses cool water, while the Roborock fills the water tank with warm water.

The Roborock's station adapts water temperature settings during the mop-cleaning process. The Dreame has one temperature mode for washing.

Both stations clean the washboard by using warm water. However, the Dreame dries the washboard with hot air to prevent water residue.

The difference:

Mopping technology: Vibrarise 4.0 Double Rotating Pads

The stations have the same set of features listed, just branded for different mopping methods. The Roborock uses a solid mop that vibrates; the Dreame has dual rotating mops.

The mops are designed for corner cleaning, only the Dreame uses the mopping pad while the Robroock has a small wheel that independently lifts from the main mop and lowers only when detecting the walls and corners. Additionally, both robots extend the side brush for deeper corner cleaning.

Going by the marketing, it seems like the Robroock can raise its front wheel to apply more pressure on the mop pad now, which might improve performance.

Brushroll system

The DuoDivide and HyperStream Detangling DuoBrus both resist hair tangling and there is no proofs that show which robot works better on carpets.

Both are a mix of rubber and bristles so there is no clear sign of which technology is a significant improvement.

Obstacle climbing technology

AdaptLift Chassis technology lifts the robot higher, which increases its climbing ability up to 1.4 in.

ProLeap System is a retractable leg that steps over thresholds.

Roborock Saros 10

The Saros 10 is one of the latest premium Saros series with a self-cleaning station made for a different mopping method, the Vibrarise 4.0.

Upgraded station

Roborock Saros 10

The rich-featured station has three temperature modes for mop washing

Hides the LDS under furniture

The Saros 10 smartly suggests No-Go zones when it can't go to certain areas and also intelligently customizes the optimal cleaning strategy based on each area and past cleaning habits.

The robot is smart, rich-featured and is suitable for all surfaces

Dreame X50 Ultra

The X50 Ultra is the latest and best robot vacuum in the Dreame's lineup.

Best Mopping Cleaner

Dreame X50 Ultra

The best in the lineup

Hides the tower under furniture, cleans and dries the washboard

The upgraded dirt detection can tell apart solids, liquids, or a mix, making sure every spot is gone for a perfect clean. Unlike Roborock which has re-wash and re-mop features, the Dreame additionally recognizes dirt.

Retractable legs help the robot to overcome thresholds up to 5.99 cm IF there is a shorter step. It easily steps over 1.65in single-layer thresholds and 0.71in obstacles if it has a chance for two steps.

The robot gets 89mm short under low-profile furniture

Which one to get?

Both robots are the best on the market with all possible features the premium model has.

The Roborock has superior customer support which in the US Dreame does not provide.

There is no significant improvement of each model over the other so it might be up to your preference of which mopping system you want, the Roborock Saros 10 solid vibrating mop, or the Dreame X50 Ultra standard dual spinning pads.
