The newest Roomba robots don't use its famous double roller system; instead, they come with one roller. The cheapest Roomba 105 series has an old-style bristle brush, while the others have a single rubber roller.

Also, the robots use hidden Lidar instead of a camera (the Roomba 205). With Lidar, the robots navigate in the dark. None of these have object recognition technology.

The Auto-Empty dock is basic for the 105 model. It only has a self-emptying feature. The Roomba 405 Combo has an advanced dock for washing and drying the pads.

The models with mopping detect and avoid carpets in mopping mode, the latest and most expensive lift the pads on carpets.

Roomba 105 Combo

The Roomba 105 and 105 Combo are different in a mopping system the standard model lacks.

The cheapest

The Roomba 105 series has an old-style brush and a single mopping pad. It is a basic robot vacuum for carpets and some hard floor areas. Considering the Roomba 105 price which is not much of a difference from the Roomba 105 Combo, I would recommend going for the latest.

The affordable robot with a self-emptying station

Roomba 205 DustCompactor

Has newer technology

Roomba 205 DustCompactor

Debris is suctioned up, continuously compacted, and contained inside the robot for up to 60 days at a time

Doesn't have a massive station

The built-in DustCompactor packs debris for up to 60 days so you don't have to dump the dustbin after each use.

The mopping system is no different from the Roomba 105 Combo, yet the Roomba 205 has a rubber roller that resists hair tangles.

The newest technology packs debris and contained inside for up to 2 months

Roomba Plus 450 Combo

The most advanced

Roomba Plus 450 Combo

Washes and dries the pads

A different mopping system

The most expensive model uses two rotating pads for mopping. The robot lifts them when step on the carpet.

The advanced Auto station washes and dries the pads, self-cleans, and self-empties the dustbin. Keep in mind, the station does not fill the water tank.

Better mopping experience

To sum up

If you don't need mopping, consider getting the Roomba 105, but the price tag of the Roomba 105 Combo is not much of a difference so if you have hard floors, an extra option is always on point.

The Roomba 205 DustCompactor has the newest technology that helps to keep the dustbin full for up to 2 months.

The Roomba Plus 450 Combo is the most advanced robot for those who are looking for a smooth mopping experience.
