So what has the S8 brought to the table?
Roborock s7 vs s8 series
- Dual roller system. Upgraded dual roller rubber brush system gets deeper into carpets ensuring better pickup
- Roller riser. In mopping mode, the robot automatically raises rollers and the mopping pad when it steps on carpet if you set it to avoid cleaning carpets.
- Upgraded vibrorise. The newest system is wider and covers a bigger area at once
- 30% faster charging
- Stronger suction
- Cleaning carpets twice with mopping on. The mop lifts automatically on carpet so the robot vacuums twice (turned off by default)
Navigation
The S8 series uses Lidar to create a map and navigate around. Additionally, each modification has a front camera to recognize objects. Each saves up to 4 maps and is suitable for multi-level houses.
Cleaning performance
There are four cleaning options:
- vacuum only. The robot raises the pad
- vacuum and then mop. The robot raises the pad letting the robot vacuum and then drops it down for mopping
- both at the same time. It doesn't rise the brush or mop when cleaning
- mop only. Rises the brushrolls in mopping mode
The mopping system vibrates pressuring the pad to the floor so it performs better with sticky stains. The S8 and S8+ have the standard vibrating mopping system while the S8 Pro Ultra has a wider vibrating area to cover more at once. It lifts the mopping pad when detects carpet for up to 15 mm so it can vacuum the carpet without damping it.
The double roller brush system ensures better pickup and deeper carpet clean and the S8 series is the first and only in the lineup with two rollers.
The app
The app allows setting the robot to clean a particular room, a specific area or not to go to one. There are a lot of customizable settings for different types of cleaning.
S8+ vs S8 Pro Ultra base difference
The "Plus" self-emptying system sucks out the robot dustbin's content right into the base.
The "Pro Ultra" base is the most advanced on the market. It has the following features:
- Self-emptying empties the robot's content
- Self-filling refills the water container during cleanups
- Self-cleaning cleans the bottom of the dock
- Self-washing washes the robot's mop after each use
- Self-drying dries the mop after washing so it doesn't stink and is ready to be used the next time
Basically, all you have to do with the Pro Ultra is to fill the water container with water and throw away a dustbag about once a month.
Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra
The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra uses the all-in-one station that washes and dries the mopping pad and auto-fills a water tank so all you need for mopping is to insert the mopping module and fill the water containers. The mopping pad has VibraRise technology that vibrates and raises the pad on carpet for a better mopping experience. In the app, you can control water flow based on your mopping needs. The mopping pad rises for up to 5 mm when sensors detect a carpet which makes it not suitable for thicker carpets.
The robot is powerful enough for cleaning thin and medium-pile carpets, it comes with an all-in-all station that empties the robot automatically, all you need is to clean a side brush and the main roller after every other cleaning session.
Equipped with a silicon brushroll, the S7 MaxV Ultra is ideal for pet and long human hair.
With Roborock’s next generation of obstacle avoidance technology, ReactiveAI 2.0, the S7 MaxV navigates around common domestic hazards using its RGB camera and a new neural processing unit. An additional light turns on in dark rooms, making obstacle recognition as effective at night as during the day. 3D structured light systems supplement the RGB camera and can spot unknown objects, determine their size and location, and allow the robot to navigate around them.
Roborock S8+
The Roborock S8+ has a basic auto-empty station with a 2.5 L disposable dustbag and the same VibraRize mopping system.
It has more power, two roller brushes instead of one, and upgraded obstacle avoidance technology.
So in short, it is better for carpets or some small hard floor areas. If you are looking for a smaller station and don't need mopping as much, have a look at the Roborock S8+.
Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra
The premium lineup includes three models: Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, S8 Max Ultra, and S8 MaxV Ultra. Those have a better station compared to the S8+.
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra has the same suction (compared to the S8+), navigation and obstacle avoidance technology, an upgraded mopping system with two vibrating areas instead of one, and an all-in-one station. A good option for homes with hard floors if you need a better mopping experience.
The Roborock S8 Max Ultra has more power and a bigger water container which means the robot is better for bigger mopping areas. The VibraRise raises the pad for up to 20 mm. The station includes a container with water detergent that automatically adds it to the clean water. Another new function is FlexiArm. When the robot gets close to the walls and corners, it extends the side brush closer for better cleaning results. Smart dirt detection senses how dirty the mopping pad is during washing to adjust the mop-washing duration. Also, when sensors detect dirty areas, the robot returns to wash it for a second time.
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra maps the floors faster and has the best object recognition system that identifies up to 73 objects. Additionally, it has even more power and DirtTech technology thanks to which the robot recognizes dirty spots and intelligently switches vacuum mode or turns it off if identifies juicy spills making cleaning fully automated.
Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra
The best in the model line
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is the most advanced model in the lineup and probably in the industry overall. Ideal if you are going to use mopping on a regular base and don't want to put much effort into it since the base does all the work for you. The fully automated robot vacuum is ideal for those who don't want to think about setting everything up, the robot will do it for you.
Conclusion
The newest Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is a better version of one of the best existing robots, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. It has more power, it is smart and has lots of different cleaning features.
The Roborock S8+ would be an option for carpeted homes or those who don't need mopping as much.
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is good for small hard floor areas.
The Roborock S8 Max Ultra is a great device with a bigger water container for bigger hard floor areas, it is smarter, has more power, and overall is a great device if you want it all in one machine.
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is the best of the best. The most intelligent, the most automated, the most powerful, and is ideal for all kinds of surfaces or home sizes. The robot to set up once and let it go.
