Both robots are best-of-the-best on the market. The two are best at navigation & avoiding objects, cleaning performance, and ease of use.
Self-cleaning station
The self-cleaning station has a different design but shares the same functions:
Self-emptying. The Dreame X40 Ultra has a bigger disposable bag.
Auto-wash and dry the mopping attachment with warm water and hot air. The Dreame's station washes the pads at a higher temperature.
Auto water and cleaning solution refill. The Dreame has bigger water containers.
Auto wash the station washboard. The washboard automatically gets cleaned during mop cleaning.
The two stations are the most-featured on the market.
Both have a modification with auto-refill & drainage system
Mapping & navigation
Both use LDS to navigate and the newest technologies for object recognition and avoidance.
Pet-friendly robot vacuum
Roborock: With AI, it wanders around your home to find your pet, takes snaps, which you can download later, and stops and avoids the pet when the robot stumbles upon it during cleaning. You can video call, talk to your pet, and manage the robot's movement from the app.
Dreame: smartly recommends a Pet's zone and avoids it, auto boosts power to catch large particles like cat litter, allows remotely interact with pets, and talk to them with live voice and video monitoring.
Mopping
Both use a different mopping method.
The Roborock has a vibrating mopping plate called Sonic technology. VibraRise 3.0 mopping system scrubs the stains with high-speed vibration and raises the cleaning pad to 20mm on carpets. Additionally, the robot has a small side wheel that extends along the walls and edges for deeper covering. The Roborock lifts the brush, mop, or both relying on a cleaning mode.
The Dreame uses two rotating mopping pads, extends one along the walls, and swings the body below low furniture and deep in corners. On carpets, it lifts the mopping pads to 10mm; in only-mopping mode, it raises the side sweeper and a cleaning brush.
In a vacuuming-only mode, the Dreame automatically removes mops

Modern-looking station
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra has a better-looking station and a different mopping system with an additional side mop for better along-the-walls performance. It uses two rollers instead of one and one vibrating mopping plate. Also automatically suggests no-go zones.
The pet-friendly feature has more options like searching for a pet, taking snaps, and video-calling your pets.
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra has a unique station and a different mopping system
Dreame X40 Ultra
Dreame X40 Ultra
Mopping robot vacuum
The Dreame X40 Ultra uses two rotating mops instead of one, one rubber roller, and doesn't lift the mops as high as the Roborock does. Instead, it leaves the pads on the station in a vacuum-only mode which Roborock doesn't do.
Extends side brush and mop to reach walls and corners
Additionally, the robot lifts the side brush, has a bigger battery and more power.
To sum up
Both devices are great, when picking one, think of what kind of cleaning mechanics suits you: whether it is two rotating pads or one vibrating plate, two rubber rollers, or a single rubber brush.
What kind of an auto-station do you like, or want to take snaps of your pets?
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is pet-friendly and uses a different mopping system than most robots do.
The Dreame X40 Ultra has more power, removes pads in a vacuuming mode, and lifts the side sweeper which the Roborock doesn't do.
