Roborock S4 Max Cleaning Performance & Features

Roborock has released a new robot vacuum, the S4 Max which is an upgraded version of the Roborock S4.

How well the Roborock S4 Max performs on hard floor, low and medium-pile carpet?

The Roborock S4 Max was tested on three different floor types with four debris types.

Overall the robot did well with the score of 95.7% which is a great result for the price.

On hardwood floor it was able to clean up to 99% of debris.

On low-pile carpet, it scored about 91.5% which was less than expected because of the S4 being better on low-pile carpet. Maybe it is due to lower climbing ability, so the S4 gets closer to the floor and as a result is better on thin carpets.

It could get 96.5% of debris on a medium-pile carpet thanks to the carpet boost feature that increases suction on carpet automatically.

Overall these are better than average results.

Design & other specifications

The S4 Max has a sleeker and simplier design compared to the S4 which has a semi-transparent lid. It has two control buttons: start/stop and home. The Lidar sensor is located in the center of the lid.

Underneath it look just like the other Roborock models with one cleaning brush, one side brush and two big wheels. The cleaning brush has detachable side tips which are handy when it comes to removing clogged hair.

The wheels are upgraded allowing the S4 Max to climb onto a thicker carpet.

The S4 Max is the same size as the original S4:

  • Diameter: 13.8 in (35.1 cm)
  • Height: 3.5 in (8.9 cm)
  • Weight: 8 lbs (3.6 kg)

In the box with the S4 Max, you will find the charging station, cleaning tool, and the dustbin + filter that is coming inside the robot vacuum.

Unlike the S5 and S6 series with modifications, the S4 series do not include mopping attachments and can not mop.

There 4 main cleaning modes: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max.

The robot follows a purposeful navigation pattern and moves back-and-forth methodically covering the whole area.

The S4 Max uses the LDS sensor on top to scan the room and create a map of the cleaning area. It stores up to 4 floor types and is ideal for multi-level houses.

The app allows to watch the robot in real-time, start/stop the robot, schedule it, set no-go lines, and order it to clean a particular room.

The no-go lines are useful as they prevent the robot from going to certain places.

During the cleaning cycle, if the robot’s battery running low, it returns to the charging station, recharges and then resumes cleaning from the spot it left off.

The S4 Max adjusts suction on carpet to provide the best performance without draining battery too fast.

In the app, you can see when you need to maintain the robot’s accessories.

We recommend to empty the dustbin and wipe the dust out of the HEPA filter after every cleaning session as the clogged filter causes suction loss.

To conclude:

The Roborock S4 Max is the best option for those who do not need mopping but at the same time want the best cleaning performance and high-end features for a lower price tag.
