Mopping vs. vacuuming
Each T series modification has a mopping feature. The mopping design is different for some models.
The DEEBOT T10 Turbo uses two rotating mopping pads while the others use a standard mopping pad. Some models support a vibrating water tank that can be bought separately. The vibrating water tank is supported by the following models:
- DEEBOT T5
- DEEBOT T8/T8 AIVI/T8 Max
- DEEBOT T9/T9 AIVI/T9 Max/T9 Power
What is the OZMO system?
The OZMO technology allows controlling water level output. There is an electric pump through which water runs out and three water levels so you can select how much water you need depending on mopping tasks.
What is the OZMO Pro 2.0?
The OZMO Pro 2.0 is a 240 ml water tank that vibrates. The embedded electronic mophead vibrates up to 480 times/minute to provide an extra deep clean.
What is the OZMO Pro 3.0?
The OZMO Pro 3.0 ensures a full reciprocating vibration with a maximum frequency of 600 times/min. Counter-rotating cloth plates spin at 180 RPM to remove every last bit of dirt from the floor.
What is the OZMO Turbo 2.0?
It is a system that has two rotating mopping pads. It rotates up to 180 times per minute making it more effective and efficient in scrubbing hard dirt and stains off the floor.
Mapping technology: camera vs gyroscope vs Lidar
Smart robots create a map of your house by using different types of sensors: gyroscope, camera, and Lidar.
Lidar creates the most accurate map and does not require light on, but a camera is more reliable, and lacking a tower on top makes camera robots shorter. A shorter robot fits under most furniture.
Only the "U" series uses a gyroscope to create a map. The map is being created by the robot hitting objects/walls and that's how it knows where it cleans. Those robots do not save a created map, nor allow setting no-go zones, zoned cleaning, sending the robot into a particular room. They can not locate themselves in a room if you manually move it. The same goes for a camera-guided robot (the 700 series only). A camera builds a more accurate map but requires light to navigate.
Lidar-guided robots normally create the most accurate map among them all by scanning the surroundings. As a result, navigation is more efficient too. Those save a created map, support no-go/no-mop zones can be sent to clean the kitchen, etc. The 900, T, and the latest N series use Lidar to navigate.
The T series use Lidar for navigation. The newer models additionally are equipped with a camera or 3D sensor that helps to recognize small objects the Lidar can not see. This makes navigation more precise and the user don't have to take off your shoes or other objects before starting the robot.
Random vs. Smart navigation. Which is better for a big house?
Random navigation means the robot bounces around more or less randomly. This causes missing spots and in big homes, there are more chances to leave some zones untouched. Those are good if you already have a traditional vacuum and need a robot for cleaning some rooms to maintain the floors clean between big cleanings.
Smart navigation is normally a back-and-forth movement the robot does to cover the whole room without missing spots.
For a big house, I always recommend a robot with smart navigation as it wouldn't get lost and knows where it needs to clean.
Battery life
A small battery means the robot might not cover a whole house on one charge if the house is big. A Lidar-guided robot cleans approximately 1sq m/10 sqft in 1 minute. The recharge and resume feature allows a robot to finish the job in big houses but keep in mind that on average it takes about 4-5 hr to charge.
Is the DEEBOT good for big houses?
Yes, especially the T series that has a bigger battery that lasts for up to 120+ minutes.
Carpet identification
This feature helps to save battery life in big houses with a mixed surface so you don't have to change the power settings or run the robot on the highest suction at all times. In mopping mode, a DEEBOT avoids carpets automatically.
Connectivity
All DEEBOT models are connected to the app and can be controlled via Amazon Alexa and Google Home. None come with a physical remote controller.
Can I make the DEEBOT work without WiFi?
Yes, if you press the start button, the robot would start cleaning and when finishing returns to the dock to recharge. But you wouldn't have access to smart features like scheduling, no-go zones, sending the robot to clean a specific room, etc.
Dustbin size. How often to clean the filter?
The latest models support a self-emptying base so the dustbin size does not matter that much. However, the filter should be wiped off after every other cleaning.
The self-cleaning base
The T8 (and modifications), T9, and T10 support a self-cleaning base.
The T8 and T9 models come with a self-emptying base that contains a disposable bag that holds debris for up to a month depending on usage. That sets you free from emptying the onboard dustbin for a long period of time.
The T10 has two modifications, the DEEBOT T10 Turbo and T10 Plus. The Plus version has a bigger disposable bag compared to the T8 and T9. The Turbo modification has two large containers with water. It does not empty the dustbin but washes the mopping pads and dries them after the cleaning is complete so the robot is always ready to go.
DEEBOT “T” Series
The T Series includes:
- OZMO T5
- OZMO T8
- OZMO T8 AIVI
- OZMO T8 Max

ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO T5
ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO T5
The oldest in the series and does not support a self-emptying base
The DEEBOT T5 is the oldest in the series and the only one that does not support a self-emptying base. A vibrating water tank can be bought optionally, the robot comes with a standard water tank. Includes a suction port for hard floors that is designed to deal with hair as it is not prone to tangling and doesn't need to be maintained.
Suitable for big homes with hard floors and some low-pile carpets.
What is the DEEBOT OZMO T5 good for?
- Large homes
- Multi-level houses
- Pet owners
- Homes with a small area of bare floor
- Homes with thin and medium-pile carpets
- Cluttered homes
- Alexa & Google Assistant owners
DEEBOT OZMO T5 vs. OZMO T8
- The OZMO T8 has an additional camera to recognize small objects and be more gentle towards them.
DEEBOT OZMO 950 vs. T5: both seem to have the same specifications. The difference between the two would be the design. They are the same vacuum with different branding.
To conclude: The OZMO T5 is better for bigger homes and low-pile carpets, also good for pet hair.
ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO T8 AIVI / T8
The DEEBOT T8 has a few modifications: the T8 AIVI and T8 Max.
ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO T8 AIVI
Has a camera to recognize small objects
What is the difference between the DEEBOT T8 vs. T8 AIVI vs. T8 Max
All of them have object recognition but different technologies. The DEEBOT T8 Max and DEEBOT T8 are equipped with a 3D sensor that is cheaper and doesn't leave icons of the avoided objects on the map. It also does not stream live videos. The T8 AIVI has a camera that takes shots of the avoided objects and allows streaming live videos.
Another difference is the OZMO Pro 2.0 which is a vibrating water tank. All three support it but the T8 Max includes one in the box, and the other two come with a standard water tank. The OZMO Pro 2.0 is on sale optionally.
The DEEBOT T8 AIVI and T8 are widely available. Apparently, the T8 Max is only available in some markets. An accessory kit is different for each model, the AIVI comes with lots of attachments.
Other than that, the features for all three are the same. Cleaning mechanics is the same too which means there is no difference in cleaning performance. The "+" in naming only means the robot includes a self-emptying base.
DEEBOT T8 vs. T9 what is the difference
The T9 series has stronger suction and comes with a vibrating water tank in the box. Because of having stronger suction, the T9 does not last as long compared to the T8 yet has a bigger on board dustbin.
The DEEBOT T9 AIVI is the only one in the series with two silicone brushrolls, Roomba's AeroForce.
To conclude: There is a difference between object recognition technologies and mopping attachments. Other than that, the T8 series is the same, suitable for big homes with low and medium-pile carpets, as well as pet owners.
ECOVACS DEEBOT T9 Series
The ECOVACS DEEBOT T9 is the newest high-end device in the lineup. It has all the features of the T8 but in addition stronger suction as well as a new feature, the Air Freshener. It includes:
- DEEBOT T9
- T9 Max
- T9 AIVI
- T9 Power
The "+" at the end stands for a self-emptying station included in the box.
Ecovacs Deebot T9 Max
Washes the mopping pads on its own
There is not much information about the difference between the T9, Max, and Power versions. What I could find is that the tower with Lidar is gold in the T9 Max and is white in the T9 Power. Probably the T9, Max and Pro are made for different markets but it is the same robot vacuum in the end.
The DEEBOT T9 with all modifications includes the OZMO Pro 2.0 (a vibrating water tank). The robot navigates by using Lidar and a 3D sensor to recognize small objects. It has a standard brush system with bristles and additionally something new, the air freshener. Air Freshener is designed to spread fragrance and effectively remove musty smells and pet odor. The box includes more accessories compared to the AIVI version.
The DEEBOT T9 AIVI has a camera for object recognition and also a double rotating bristles brushroll system which is good for pet owners as it is almost completely tangle-free.
The T9 series support a self-emptying base that can be bought optionally or with a "+" model.
ECOVACS DEEBOT T9 Power/Max vs. T9 AIVI
- The two use different technology for object recognition, the T9 AIVI uses a camera and also allows streaming live videos while the T9/T9 Max/Power is equipped with a 3D sensor. The T9 AIVI leaves small icons of the avoided objects on the map.
- Another difference is the cleaning mechanics. The T9 AIVI is equipped with the iRobot's double rotating bristles brushes, AirForce.
- The T9 AIVI has a smaller dustbin (330 vs. 420 ml).
The T9 is not on sale yet but it looks promising so we are waiting for it to come to the market. Well, technically, you can buy these on Aliexpress but to make it work, the seller needs to create an account with a Chinese phone number and only in this case, you can connect the robot to the app.
To conclude: the DEEBOT T9 AIVI is a great buy for pet owners and those who want advanced object recognition technology. For those who are okay with cheaper technology and have lots of carpets, there is the T9, T9 Max/Power. The T9 Series is suitable for big homes with low and medium-pile carpets and also for pet owners.
ECOVACS DEEBOT T10 series
Ecovacs Deebot T10 Turbo
Washes the mopping pads on its own
The DEEBOT T10 series has two modifications, the T10 PLUS and T10 Turbo. The difference between the two:
- The Turbo modification comes with two water containers yet the robot does not have a water tank inside. Its self-cleaning base only washes the double rotating mopping pads and does not self-empties debris. The base also has a hot air drying function.
- The PLUS version base only self-empties the dustbin but does not wash a mopping pad. Unlike Turbo, the PLUS has a standard mopping pad that vibrates. It has a water tank on board.
In short, the Turbo version washes its mopping pads but does not have a self-emptying feature. The PLUS does not wash the pad yet has a self-emptying option.
Both models are equipped with a camera for object recognition and are able to make a real-time video, an option that is not available for models with a 3D sensor.
DEEBOT T9 vs. T10 Plus
The DEEBOT T10 has a camera for object recognition and a different style of self-emptying base. A disposable bag is also bigger (4 L vs. 2.5 L). A larger battery makes the T10 Plus ideal for large houses.
To conclude
For those who don't need a self-emptying base and want to get an affordable robot, have a look at the DEEBOT T5.
Homes that mostly have hard floors and low-pile carpets are ideal for the DEEBOT T8/T8 AIVI.
The DEEBOT T9 AIVI/Max is one of the newest in the lineup and is perfect for homes with medium-pile carpets and hard floors.
The DEEBOT T10 Plus is not on sale yet but if you are looking for a good mopping robot that also vacuums carpets, consider getting the DEEBOT T10 Turbo.
