Dreame D9 Side Brush Motor not working

Hello everyone.
I have the amazing Dreame D9 since half january, and I almost used it everyday to clean my apt (30 min). Since last weeks I can't use it since side brush don't work, and robot consequently keeps telling to "clean it". Of course it's clean, and even removing the brush, nothing change.
Already tried to reset it several times.
I wrote to Dreame assistance and sent them video, hoping they can help, and I noticed few other people on the web with the same issue, so it can be some known defect.

It looks like the motor contacts are friction connection with the motherboard contacts. I would try to bend slightly the motor contacts at opposing angles so that they are "tighter" against the motherboard contacts. Don't try to bend the motherboard contacts as those might break. Hopefully that helps, try it out and let us know

Hello Natalie. I bought on aliexpress from Dreame official store. I uploaded video as they asked, but not answer yet. I also wrote to aftersales email of dreame, they also asked video and information of model, but then nothing yet. I found that other people have the same issue, but I couldn't get in contact with them.
If I can find in my city a RC500 motor for the side brush to replace I'll try it myself.

Well, I connected myself the motor to cables plugged in a USB port, and motor works. So it's not the cause.

Still not help from Dreame, so I disassembled the side brush motor, looks ok.
But then I started the robot without the side brush motor, and it does exactly like before, it works few meters then tell to check and clean the side brush (!)
It doesn't see it missing at all. If somebody has some idea...thank you.
Not good looking for a brand new model

Hi there, did you contact Dreame via email or Amazon?

Antek82 ⋅ 3 years, 1 month ago #

I found out. The motherboard power pins lose contact with the side motor pins.
Looks like Dreame has a defect, because there's nothing that guarantees this contact.
Surely this will happen to other people, after some time of robot working with vibrations, oscillations...

Antek82 : your post could be saving a lot of troubles and shipping costs for quite few buyers - only hope for dreame that it was a single batch issue..
It's been a week, is your fix still holding well ?

If I understand right, this picture shows your fix: https://i.imgur.com/VE9OTTq.jpg

Looks like you cut up/tore off legs from a battery holder and placed them there to ensure permanent contact between motherboard and motor pins ?
Correct ?

Here's my story on reddit - will crosspost this thread there.

Exact same issue as you experience - also in contact with the seller (dreame Direct Store, shipping Spain toNL) and dreame themselves (aftersales@dreame.tech)
so far, not much happening, seller wants me to ship back to Spain, dreame asked the first batch of information (s/n, problem description etc)

Hello !
Yes I confirm that's the solution. I had to make it better and more stabil, but it's definitely working, sure an electrician can do better job, but there's no doubt that this was the problem. Simply one contact can get lost during the working ( robot is powerful, pushing, jumping...so it will happen), and it simply stop and tell to clean this damned side brush.
Poor projecting really. Poor.
I was also writing to dreame aftersales, but I realized that they are just pasting predefined answers, nobody will look into your problem, and that's a shame about them. So good to find people like you and shares solution ! Good luck

Hi Antek82, thank you guys both actually for sharing the solution. It didn't happen with my device so I didn't know how to fix it. And tbh I thought Dreame support might help with this too.

Sorry to hear you had issues with your devices tho.

Yes I'm happy I managed, but can happen with your too, one day or another, I guess depends how much solicitation and stress has the robot during the work. Mine was perfect 45 days ( it was used almost everyday). Good Luck !
