What is the difference between the DEEBOT N series: N7 vs. N8 vs. N8 Pro+ vs. N9

The ECOVACS DEEBOT N series is a premium lineup but with a lower price tag, compared to its T and X1 series. These robots use cheaper technologies and do not have a big battery which affects the price tag. The N is a mapping-capable series with the features all premium robots have nowadays. So what does it bring to the table?

The N Series includes:

  • DEEBOT N7
  • N8 (N8+)
  • N8 Pro (N8 Pro+)
  • N9 (N9+)

The "+" in the name means the robot includes a self-emptying base.

Navigation & mapping

The N series navigates by using Lidar or a camera. The camera needs lights on for more efficient navigation, it takes lots of pictures of the cleaning areas creating a map this way. Sometimes it needs a few cleaning cycles to complete a map. The Lidar scans the surroundings and builds a map after one pass, and works in a complete dark.

The N7, N8, and N8 Pro use Lidar, the latest N9 has a built-in camera.

Only the DEEBOT N9 is being navigated via a camera

Additionally to the Lidar, some robots have a 3D sensor that helps to recognize small objects like socks or shoes, which Lidar can not detect. That makes navigation more accurate, the robot doesn't bump into things carefully avoiding them. Only the DEEEBOT N8 Pro/Pro+ has this sensor.

The DEEBOT N8 Pro/Pro+ has a built-in 3D sensor for recognizing small objects

A camera-guided robot's navigation is normally not as accurate as Lidar's.

Mopping

ECOVACS robots vacuum and mop at the same time and have a relatively big water tank.

No robot of the N series supports an OZMO Pro 2.0 system, a vibrating water tank. All of them have a mopping system tho. The N7, N8, and N8 Pro use a standard OZMO system. A water tank that does not vibrate just drags around the mopping cloth. The DEEBOT N9 has the OZMO Turbo system: two rotating mopping pads.

All of them avoid carpets in mopping mode automatically and additionally have no-mop zones that make the robot avoid carpets in mopping mode when being set.

While the N7 and all modifications of the N8 are vacuums with a mopping function, the N9 is a different story. It is firstly a mopping robot with a vacuuming feature and is better for homes with hard floors mostly since it self-washes its pads and refills a water tank automatically. If you are looking for a robot that would mop your floors without having to maintain it as much, consider getting the DEEBOT N9+.

Self-emptying base

A self-cleaning base is a common thing for premium robots these days. The N series is no exception, every model but the N7 supports one.

The DEEBOT N8+ and N8 Pro+ have the same cleaning base with a 2.5 L disposable bag. It sucks debris out of the onboard dustbin and can hold up to 30 dustbin contents setting you free from emptying the dustbin manually.

The DEEBOT N9+ is a different thing. It is mostly a mopping robot that also does the vacuuming. The self-cleaning base contains two water containers for clean and wasted water. It does not have a disposable bag which means you have to empty the dustbin after every cleaning. However, the water containers refill an onboard water tank, wash the mopping pads, and the base uses hot air to dry them out.

Basically, the N8+/N8 Pro+ base self-empties the onboard dustbin but does not wash the mopping pad, nor do fill the water tank with water. The DEEBOT N9+ does not empty the dustbin but does all the job with the mopping components.

ECOVACS DEEBOT N7

Affordable high-end model

ECOVACS DEEBOT N7

A budget version of the top-level models

The DEEBOT N7 is the most affordable in the lineup. It does not include a self-emptying base and does not support one. It also doesn't have object recognition technology and basically is good for homes with low-pile carpets and hard floor areas.

Affordable high-end model

ECOVACS DEEBOT N8 Pro+

A budget version of the top-level models

Recognizes small objects, compatible with a self-emptying base, ideal for medium-sized houses

The DEEBOT N8/N8+ is hard to find, while the N8 Pro+ is widely available. Compared to the N7, the N8 Pro+ comes with a self-emptying base, has stronger suction, and a built-in sensor that sees small objects the Lidar can not detect making navigation more accurate.

The robot is suitable for medium and bigger homes (up to 120 sqm / 1200 sqft) with low and medium-pile carpets and some hard floor areas. It automatically avoids carpets in mopping mode.

ECOVACS DEEBOT N9+ OZMO

The DEEBOT N9+ OZMO is the only robot in the "N" series that does not have a self-emptying function, instead comes with two large water containers that wash the mopping pads.

Best for hard floors

ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N9+

Washes the mopping pads on its own

Guided by a camera and has two large water tanks, one for clean and one for dirty water.

The DEEBOT N9 is a different model with a completely different self-cleaning base. It contains two large containers for clean and wasted water. The base refills an onboard water tank, washes the mopping pads after mopping, and dries them out after washing is complete. It is also the only model that is being navigated with a help of a camera and does not have a front sensor for object recognition.

Ideal for those who want a mopping robot that also vacuums since it is suitable for hard floors as well as carpets.

To sum up

If you don't want to break your budget and looking for a robot vacuum without extras like a self-emptying base, have a look at the ECOVACS DEEBOT N7.

Those who need a self-emptying base, consider getting the DEEBOT OZMO N8+.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT N8 Pro+ would be ideal for cluttered homes with low and medium-pile carpets as well as some hard floor areas.

If you are looking for a good mopping robot that would additionally vacuums your floors, get the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N9+.
