Is a DEEBOT Worth buying? Which ECOVACS Robot Vacuum Cleaner To Buy In 2019?

By Natalie Red·Updated: Aug 16, 2019· 9 min read

ECOVACS produces decent robot cleaners that are budget yet featured with useful options. We want to talk about the devices with a price tag that starts at $150 and ends up at around $550. Let's get started, shall we?

Navigation & How does a DEEBOT clean?

A Deebot has two side brushes that are supposed to sweep dust from corners and transfer it to the main brush where it gets sucked up inside the dustbin.

The ECOVACS Deebot N79S, M80 Pro and 601 move around following a random pattern. They do not remember a home layout and don't know where they have cleaned.

This is good for small homes, the robot might cover the whole area while cleaning until it needs to recharge. The vacuum automatically docks itself when the battery runs out of energy.

All the Deebot robot cleaners come with the ECOVACS app. Each of them is integrated with Alexa enabled devices and Google Home.

In the app, you can switch between cleaning modes, schedule the robot to work at a specific time and manually control the robot.

Cliff and anti-collision sensors

These sensors became a standard. Every robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with the sensors to prevent it from falling and help to navigate around recognizing obstacles without getting stuck and bumping into furniture.

The cheapest model with LIDAR. Supports restricted areas, customized cleaning, and area mode. Builds an accurate map. Includes a suction inlet for pet hair. Has the shortest body among laser-based robot vacuums. Can be tracked in real-time. Suitable for bigger homes with bare floors and thin carpets.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT 901 has proven itself as a decent budget robot vacuum cleaner that is smart enough to remember your home layout. There is a laser in the tower that scans surroundings creating a plan of the cleaning area. Once the map is created, a computer inside the robot calculates the most efficient way of cleaning. The Deebot follows the plan navigating in straight lines until it covers all area.

In the app, you can track its movements in real-time, see a created map, switch between modes and schedule the robot.

The app also allows to create digital blocked zones and customize cleaning areas. And, you can prioritize cleaning saying living room first.

When the Deebot 901 cleans your house, and it doesn't finish cleaning the whole thing in one charge, it'll automatically recharge itself and when it is done charging it'll finish cleaning.

The robot is short even though it has a tower, the Deebot 901 fits under most furniture. In the box, you will find a suction inlet and a main cleaning brush. The inlet is excellent for pet hair since it doesn't cause hair tangling, the brush works better on carpet flooring.

The robot is ideal for all houses, from smallest to large ones. The Deebot 901 performs great on thin carpets and bare floor. Not suitable for thick carpets.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT Ozmo 930 is a high-end robot vacuum from ECOVACS and is one of the best products in the line.

The Ozmo 930 sweeps and mops at the same time. In the box, there is a suction inlet and cleaning brush.

The robot is equipped with a water tank and OZMO Mopping Technology that controls water dripping.

The Ozmo 930 is equipped with the LIDAR mapping system that creates an accurate plan based on what is "sees" around. The robot is able to identify types of surface which is something we haven't seen before. You can see the bare floor and carpeting flooring in the map. Thanks to this, when the Ozmo 930 is in mopping mode, it doesn't go over carpet leaving it dry.

In the app, you can do the same as the 901 does, plus seeing different surface types.

The Ozmo 930 moves in straight lines following the plan it has created. Once its battery needs to recharge, the robot gets back to the docking station and resumes cleaning when it's done charging.

If you own Google Assistant or Alexa enabled devices, you can control the Ozmo 930 with your voice.

The most powerful and longer-lasting robot vacuum cleaner in the family. Equipped with the LDS laser to build an accurate map. Runs 200 minutes on low power settings and the whole 150 minutes in high power which is long enough, only a few cleaners in the market can work on low power for 2.5 hours.

It has 1,500 Pa of suction and 24 CFM of airpower velocity which is one of the highest numbers we’ve seen to date. It has an upgraded cleaning brush that handles hair tangling pretty well. It provides deep cleaning on medium-pile carpet and shows good results on a deep carpet cleaning test according to the Vacuum Wars review

The robot supports virtual boundaries, custom zone cleaning and area mode. By drawing a rectangle or clicking on a particular area, you can make the robot work within a certain zone or room or block it from going to specific places.

It is the first model that saves up to 3 floor plans which makes the robot ideal for big multi-level houses. It is equipped with a cleaning brush and suction port for bare flooring cleaning and pet hair pickup.

It recognizes carpet when vacuuming the cleaner boosts up suction once it steps on carpet to ensure deeper cleaning. In mopping mode, it avoids carpets. You can also drag an area around carpets to let the cleaner know where it should not go. Unlike the OZMO 930, the newest OZMO 950 can do both: mopping and vacuuming at the same time.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950 is ideal for large households with more than one level covered with carpets, and pet owners.

Which Deebot robot cleaner is the best to buy in 2019?

If you are strict on your budget, the ECOVACS DEEBOT N79S would be an excellent choice to make.

If your home is all about a bare floor, the ECOVACS DEEBOT M80 Pro will suit your needs.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT 601 is something in between. If you have some thin carpets and rugs and mostly bare floor - the Deebot 601 is the robot vacuum that will not disappoint you. It costs the same as the M80 Pro does yet can also clean thin carpets as well as a bare floor.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT 500 is very similar to the N79S. It has a bigger dustbin and is suitable for bigger homes with pets.

If you are able to spend some extras have a look at those robots with mapping:

The DEEBOT 901 is a perfect budget robot vacuum. It doesn't cost that much, creates an accurate map, runs for the whole 100 minutes and is shorter than most LIDAR-based robots. If you don't need a mopping feature and your home is covered by thin carpets, the Deebot 901 is an ideal robot cleaner to buy.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT Ozmo 930 is an advanced version of the DEEBOT 901 with carpet identification and mopping. If you want the robot to have a smart "brain" that will avoid carpets when mopping, the Ozmo 930 is just a great choice. If you need mopping and you have some carpets - get the Ozmo 930.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT 711 is a camera-based cleaner that honestly does not look as attractive as its brother - DEEBOT 901. It costs the same and is not able to resume cleaning after its battery is about to die. You can not create digital virtual walls and interact with a created map. We do not recommend to buy the Deebot 711 if you want a robot with mapping. It is a decent cleaner when it comes to cleaning but does not have all the advanced features as the Deebot 901 has.

If you are looking for a premium robot vacuum with a long-lasting battery, decent suction power, and smart features, have a look either at the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950 or ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 920. The new virtual boundary in mopping mode feature is amazing and would be useful if you have rugs. Suitable for people who are looking for a cleaner that would do mopping and sweeping. Also is great for pet owners thanks to the new cleaning brush. If you live in an average house with more than one level and no thick carpets, consider buying the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 920. If your house is about medium-pile carpets, it is large, you have pets and want a flagship robot vacuum, have a look at the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950.
