Summary

The Cubot X18 Plus has a very nice design and a brilliant Full HD+ 18:9 screen with thin borders and little room top and bottom of the screen. I love the feeling of the slim glass body with the metal frames, and generally, the device looks very premium. Of course, this device is not for gamers or photographers. But for most users who are looking for a good smartphone that performs good in everyday tasks with a decent battery life and who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for expensive flagship models, Cubot X18 Plus will be a good choice.

A while ago I've received the latest phablet from Cubot - X18 Plus that looks impressive, by the way. Big thanks to Gearbest for having the opportunity of testing this smartphone. With its small bezels, minimalistic design and the newest 18:9 format screen Cubot X18 Plus is one the best budget smartphones on the market worth paying attention to. Let's dive deeper into its specifications and see what makes it so special.

Design & Appearance

Cubot 18X Plus is a 5.99-inches phablet that looks awesome. Its bezels slightly thicker than on manufacture's pictures but they are still thinner than most phones come with. The phone comes with the newest 18:9 aspect ratio screen. Nothing too special in its design what would make it look different from most phones and this is a good thing considering its low price. There are two color options available to buy: black and blue. No physical buttons under the screen. On the right, you can find the volume and Off/On buttons. On the other side, there is a place where a SIM card sits. It is also equipped with two camera sensors on the back panel and a fingerprint scanner.

In general, the build quality feels good. There is no this plastic crack noise. I would think the frame made of aluminum but I haven't found what a material they use, and the back of the phone looks like glass or high-quality plastic.

Display

The 5.99-inch 18:9 Full HD+ display looks impressive, I like how bright it is. It has a 2160 x 1080px high 403PPI resolution and the image is super clean. I like the LED indicator above the screen that flashing on when there are missed call or app notifications or when the battery is low.

Battery Life

Cubot X18 Plus has a 4000 mAH Li-Polymer battery that in my experience lasts two days in a not heavy-using mode which is a good result for such budget smartphone. It runs for approximately 6 hours when watching HD videos on YouTube or playing high-intensity games. The full charge can take up to 3 hours.

Unfortunately, my phone shutting itself down when the battery remaining is under 4%. I don't know if this is a software issue, although this is not a big problem hope it will be fixed with an update.

Hardware and Specs

The phablet powered by MTK6750T 1.5GHz Octa Core processor with Mali-T860 GPU. It has 4GB of RAM which is quite enough for all my needs, and I can easily use multi-tasking apps. There is 64Gb of internal storage which is very good considering the cost of the device, also it supports an external memory up to 256GB. Fingerprint works accurate and fast, unblock the device from the first attempt.

Performance

Even though this phablet equipped with a little-outdated processor, it performs really good in the newest high-intensity games. I tested it with Asphalt 8, Unkilled, Real Racing 3, Modern Combat 5, Vainglory and everything run smoothly without notable FPS drops and it does not overheat to uncomfortable levels. In daily use, I don't notice any lags or performance issues, all the social apps like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Reddit work really well and smooth.

Software

The Cubot X18 Plus runs stock Android 8.0 with some modifications. It has all the necessary latest security updates. There are a few standard apps, that coming in the box, no third-party advertising, and everything is very close to a pure Android OS experience.

Network & Connection

This phablet supports most popular LTE bands B1/B3/B7/B8/B20, I tested the LTE download speed and it was ~65Mbps, even faster than my home WiFi which is very good and probably can be even better depending on the mobile operator. WiFi connection is also good and stable and I don't have any issues with it. Bluetooth devices such as fitness trackers work with this device without any problem.

Camera

Unfortunately, the camera is not that good as I expected from a 20MP dual-camera system. In the evening or in low-light places, the photo looks graininess, but fair to say we can see this problem in almost all smartphones in this price range. I don't know if it is a software issue or hardware. However, under the daylight, it makes very decent photos. The front camera is pretty good for selfies and photos for social media. There are a lot of filter options and modes available.

Speakers

The sound of internal speakers is not very loud and deep but still not bad. There is only one speaker in the bottom. When I listen to music using headphones or Bluetooth the audio quality is much better, with deep bass and saturation.

What in the box

I got this device in a small white box made of solid cardboard. I like that manufacturer put a TPU protective case in the box. The case is transparent, it fits very well the phone and has a solid border bumper that should safe the device if it will be accidentally dropped. It also includes a micro-USB cable, a 5V/2A adapter, SIM tool and Quick Start Guide.
