Video Comparison of the Mi Robot Vacuum Mop P and Roborock S5 Max

Navigation

Even though both are LDS-guided, the Roborock is more efficient. The robot finishes cleaning faster than most robots. Besides, it is gentle with furniture and almost doesn’t bump into things as it vacuums.

In our tests, the Xiaomi needed more time to finish cleaning the same area.

The Roborock S5 Max is more efficient and needs less time to cover the same area

Performance on carpet & hard floor

On paper, the Roborock and Xiaomi have similar specifications but they perform differently on carpet.

Firstly it’s the cleaning brush. At first sight the cleaning brush looks alike but...

The Xiaomi’s brush has fewer bristles and is solid. The removable side tips help to get rid of clogged hair around the edges where it normally gets stuck the most. The brush with extra bristles agitates better picking up more debris off the floor.

The cleaning brush does make a difference if you have long hair, pets, or carpets.

Another thing is carpet identification. The Roborock boosts suction automatically once it senses carpeted surface. This feature helps to save battery life.

In our tests, the Roborock did better at picking up debris and providing deep clean on carpet.

The Roborock S5 Max shows better cleaning results on carpets

Mopping

The Roborock S5 Max and Xiaomi Mop P both have an electronic water tank that allows setting water flow levels but the navigation pattern for both is different.

The Xiaomi follows a Y-shape pattern and also can go back-and-forth. The Roborock only goes back-and-forth in mopping mode.

The Y-shape seems to be a bit better at mopping but it also takes twice as long to cover the same area.

On a day-to-day basis, you most likely will not notice the difference between the two.

The Xiaomi has two containers, one for dust and one that holds dust and water. The Roborock comes with two separate containers.

The main flaw of the Xiaomi mopping system is leaking. The robot leaks which might damage your floors if you do not remove the water tank after finishing the job. The Roborock S5 Max does not leak, you can leave it after it’s done with mopping. In addition, it comes with a moist-proof mat that keeps your floors safe.

Also, the Roborock has a bigger water tank which means it covers a larger area.

As to mopping, both robots do the job just fine and you most likely will not notice the difference between the two in everyday cleaning.

As for the day-to-day cleaning, the Roborock is more convenient to use. It comes with a mat so you can keep the robot with the mopping pad on without being worried about the floors to get moist. The robot is not leaking & you don’t have to remove the water tank after mopping. You can also shut off water output if needed.

The Roborock S5 Max is definitely easier to use as a mop.

The app features

The Roborock S5 Max works with the Roborock and Mi Home app. The Xiaomi only can be connected to the Mi Home app.

The Roborock app is faster and more user-friendly. The Mi Home is useful when you have other Xiaomi products that are connected to the same eco-system.

Both models have the same features, no-go zones, zoned cleaning, and room cleaning.

In addition, the S5 Max allows settings no-mop zones and different cleaning modes/water output levels for each room. No-mop zones keep the robot off carpet in mopping mode. Customizing cleaning settings are best if you need to shut off suction in some rooms or make the robot work quieter. Also you can set different water outputs for the rooms if needed.

International versions of the Xiaomi Mop P do not have multifloor feature yet. The robot saves one map but for now and can not be used in multi-level houses.

The Roborock S5 Max stores 4 floor plans and is suitable for multi-level houses.

Another thing is Alexa and Google Home support. The Xiaomi lacks this possibility.

Last but not least, the Roborock S5 Max regularly receives updates.

Other things to consider

The Roborock S5 Max is widely available. You can either get it on Gearbest and Amazon. The Xiaomi is not on sale on Amazon.

Battery life. The Xiaomi is not suitable for big homes, it is either good for small to average houses. And it lacks intelligent recharging. The S5 Max calculates how much energy it needs to finish cleaning in a big house saving time on recharging. The Xiaomi needs to power up to 80% before resuming cleaning.

The Roborock S5 Max is ideal for big multi-level houses
