Ive used both vacs, and the comparison you make is misleading. Saying the i7 has a virtual wall and describing the virtual wall as keeping the vacuum from going where you don't want it to go is untrue. The virtual walls on the i7 simply cordon off rooms that the vac doesn't recognize. They are more of a work-around to a deficiency then a feature. The S5, on the other hand, does not recognize rooms as independent, but it does allow you to truly tell the vac, via virtual no-go lines in the app, where you don't want it to go. In your review, you call this 'digital blocked area' but offer no explanation for it. This could lead people to believe that the i7 can block off areas, and they will be very disappointed after spending $1,200 to find out that it can't.

By the way, iRobot was very very very liberal with their stated 120 min battery life. In reality, you'll be lucky if you get over an hour even on hard wood floors. The mapping function is superfluous, and (other than allowing you to choose specific rooms to clean, which is a necessity due to the pathetic battery life) it is little more then a gimmick as the bot will continue to go places if there is no obstruction regardless of what the map shows; and user's have no control to set virtual boundaries. The bottom line is the i7 is simply a Roomba 980 with an extra $500 tagged on for the automatic emptying of the waste bin. I'm a capitalist at heart, but if people feel the $1,200 price tag is worth saving the two minutes and 10 Calories that it takes to empty the waste container, then Bernie Sanders is right in saying people have wayyyy too much money.

Hi Mike,
thanks for your comment. The virtual walls feature in our comparison means supporting the "Dual Mode Virtual Wall Barrier," but you are right that it's unclear, we'll add a more detailed explanation of what all these features mean.

Regarding the battery life, there is no official info from iRobot, but a few the i7 owners claim ~75 minutes of runtime, so we have fixed our comparison table. Unfortunately, iRobot doesn't provide a lot of technical details about their products such as suction power, runtime, battery capacity, dustbin capacity etc. We found all these details around the internet and sometimes they are not correct.

It's great to have real feedback about the Roomba i7. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
