The Shark ION 750 (RV750) and the newer ION R85 (RV850) have a similar design and specifications but there are also some differences between the two. The biggest downside of the Shark ION robots is the battery life. They can last up to 60-70 minutes which does not make them suitable for bigger homes.

The Shark ION R75 and R85 are not suitable for big homes

The newer model has a bigger dustbin (380 ml vs. 600 ml). Also, the R85 can work on dark carpets which is rare among robot vacuums.

Because of HEPA filtration, the Shark ION is safe for allergy and asthma sufferers

Compared to the R75, the newer ION is more powerful having 1,400 Pa vs. 1,000 Pa. This would not be enough for medium-pile carpets but the robot can provide good performance on low-pile carpets. Because of MAX cleaning mode, the R85 can deliver more pascals.

The new Shark R85 has an upgraded navigation system that is more sensitive to obstacles and objects.

To sum up:

The Shark ION R75 (RV750) is a good budget robot suitable for hard floors and occasional low-pile carpets and rugs. It costs about $100 less than the ION R85 but if you don’t have carpets or you want a robot as an addition to your powerful traditional vacuum, you can go with the Shark ION R75.

The Shark ION R85 is a nice robot for homes with low-pile carpets and hard floors. Also if you have pets, it will be able to hold more hair. Because of the upgraded bnavigation system, it is better for homes with more furniture.
